try htg they usually have good deals. ceramic metal halide? i would get a 400 watt digital ballast. so you can use a cmh for veg, and switch to hps for flowering. i got a 400 watt lumitech ballast with bothmh, and hps bulbs, the ceramic socket, and hood for like 125.00. hope thats what you ment. i have been vegging with 6500k cfl's to save on electricity, and heat. then when i start flowering i add the 400 watts. anyway good luck with whatever you decide.

i thought a digital ballast would not work with a cmh bulb... im wanting to do the whole grow with cmh 400watts from seed to harvest. can anyone point me in the right direction for a cmh friendly ballast.

whats the diff in a magnetic and a electronic ballast?

is the digital and the electronic the same thing?

whats a good ballast that will last to use 400 watt cmh bulbs in ?

I have been researching cmh for about a week.spent an hour on the phone w/ a west coast light shop and I would state with 99% conviction do not use anything but coil and core magnetic ballast, thus no digital ballasts. I believe it is the frequencies they run at respectively.
here is a site to explain some of the differences. http://strainguide.org/8485/digital-ballasts-vs-magnetic-ballasts-hydroponics-secrets-48-3/
There will be digital ballasts for cmh in the future I hear.
This web site is not the easiest to get info or comprehend, but the people will answer the phone and e-mails with great help. But!, also see Seattle Hydroponics for more info as there appear to be three or four cmh bulbs, G.E., Phillips, Venture (?), and Life Light(?)(this may be digital).

I believe (call a systems store like Speciality Light or Plug-nPlant) that the Sun System Harvest Pro Elite 400 switchable will strike and run a 400 w cmh bulb.
