Spring update. checking on my apple tree found a web of spider mites in a rolled up leaf. I quickly disposed of them. Then I found these insects on this leaf.

I plucked the leaf off the tree with these insects intact. I then placed them on a board which is part of a raised bed to get a closer look.

They appear to me to be grass hoppers and I hate grass hoppers had to many of them spit on me
as a kid. Retribution Time!:cuss:

... the grass hopper shall spit at your heel and you shall crush it with your heel...

Actually my Nike sandal did the trick here! :-D

Cicada, best to catch them all up ...put in the microwave for 30 seconds then eat them, taste like salty peanuts, full of protein too, and freak your buddies out ...LOL

Thanks Vostok,

The wings on these are not opaque as those images on google, however the shape of the insect and its head and body features match. These also have the white eyes not red as most do. With over 2500 variants I am sure this is one of them. I'll certainly look for some fresh ones now and give them a 30 second dose of microwaves and see how they taste. I wonder what micro brew favorite of mine will go well with them?

Dont kill cicadas.. They spend 13 years in the soil and emerge to mate. They are amazing creatures, if you can mind the sound.
Bugs are your friends, they keep the predator bugs around and if you kill the pests then the good bugs have nothin to eat!
Lol sorry, i did lsd a few years ago and have a huge soft spot for bugs/spiders

Nova,

No worries I am not running a eradication program like the DEA did on Coco. Bolivia has their shit together paying farmers for their coco more then the Narcos. This has produce great quality coco drinks and edibles that are naturally effective similar to caffeine without the Cocaine effect and the side effects. Coco naturally is healthy to consume. However Columbia is a different story... sorry for the side trail.

Perhaps next time I see these I will relocate them to neighbors yard for they were beautiful however I want apples on my apple tree, the tree is to feed me not them.

Lol well you just taught me something new. I never knew that about coco!
To be fair, if i had my own apple tree and saw any kind of bug on it i would probably do the same. Well not smush them but i would throw them over my fence haha, i do that with all the caterpillars that fall from the trees into my yard at this time of year. They spit on me too :/ its gross
