What are cuttings considered?

If I have 8 plants in veg and I am trying to clone can I only have 4 cuttings? Do they fall under seedlings? The laws are confusing to me at the moment. I have 3 plants in veg stage and have my 2 rooms close to being finished. I would like to keep around 4 mothers and then veg 4 for a perpetual garden but if I can have more mothers that would be cool.

Cuttings aren't usually considered plants until they have roots. But that depends on the laws in your specific area. So there's always a cavil.

Sorry I wasn't being clear. What I meant was for specific information on interpretation of your local legal statutes you need the advice of a practicing attorney in your area. That is the only way to be absolutely certain in your specific case.

I guess this doesn't apply to cuttings/clones?

[h=4]Rhode Island General Laws > Title 21 > Chapter 21-28.6 > § 21-28.6-3 - Definitions[/h] (13) "Usable marijuana" means the dried leaves and flowers of the marijuana plant, and any mixture or preparation thereof, but does not include the seeds, stalks, and roots of the plant.

Technically you should be safe but again only an attorney practicing in your area can make that statement. It would be very wise to just ask one. So you have someone lined up just in case anything happened to you.

YES,CUTTING and NOT plants until rooted.

It only takes 1-3 weeks for a cutting to root and become a clone, ie a seedling. You don't really need an attorney to know what a judge will say - just don't break the rules and err on the side of caution.

I met with a lawyer this week and asked that specific question. According to the letter of the RI law, there is no difference between a clone and a seedling, even if it hasn't rooted. There is federal case law that says that unrooted clones don't count as plants, but that would have to be litigated in state court to establish a precedent.

Not the answer I wanted, but it's the answer I got...

thanks Franklinstein that clears it up for me. no more than 12 even cuttings. I don't want to push the limits. looks like im going to be grafting...
