Just about to start flowering my third grow since I started aero. Despite all the warnings from naysayers here this is what I have experienced. I have not had one clogged spray head to date, and I am running 22 of them on three circuits in three chambers using the same res and accumulator and pump. I only change my res out once a grow now, about two weeks into flowering -- with no dif in results. I do not DTW. I never had to adjust ph. I have had no failures of pump or any component of the systems. I have never had any kind of contamination or bacterial or algae growths like the DWC and other hydro setups seem to be plagued with. I have never had to use bleach or hydrogen peroxide. My typical maintinence consists of pouring a gallon of water with nutes once a day and training plants when they get too uneven. The only problems I have had was with light burn because I did not realize how powerful the Geekbeast pro was. I now veg at 35% power at 22 inches from the tops. This has been the most trouble free growing I have done in fifty years.

what kind of aero are you using? I have the ghe aeroflo and had nothing but problems with it....mainly root slime which I never had in dwc

Just changed to 12/12 so it will be a while before I can put up a pic. Next round I am going pure landrace Punta Roha sativa for old times sake. I expect much training and to be able to finally turn the beast up to 80%
Do you have a grow journal going where we can see your plants and setup?

And no photo is going to prove one way or another how care-free my grows are. My post is just so people who want to give it a try don't get discouraged by your negativity.

I built my system from scratch, pressure switched at 80 -- 140psi with 22 tefin heads an aquatec 8852-2po2-t424 pump (this is important, and I could only find them at Custom Installations in CA) and 3/8th John Guest tubing with 50micron filtering in a ten gallon res and 20 micron inline before the pump, a 150 psi blow out valve and a 4 gallon WellXtrol accumulator rated to 200psi with a 150psi working pressure, all John Guest fittings and Austrian solenoids ($70 each as opposed to less than $10 for the Chinese valves and worth it) also from Custom Installations. I built my own spray head assemblies but I think you may be able to find them from the factory if you are lucky.

I use the typical black and yellow heavy totes for chambers: the largest ones, I think they are 75 gallons but could be wrong about that. I have put up photos of it last summer when I first built it. If you want to see it so bad look them up. The only difference is that now I have three chambers instead of one, everything else, except for some extra plumbing and two more solenoids is the same.

If I were to start over again I would do it exactly the same way with this type of system. I do believe that set up properly one pump could run six or more chambers with one pump, as long as the valves fire at different times. I keep two spare pumps on hand but have never needed them.

My next move will be to use compressed air and the appropriate spray heads. But unlike some other aero users that I have talked to, I will still use an accumulator because using a pressure tank acidifies the water, and I like not having to screw with the ph. I have checked my ph once in six weeks and didn't need to.

I run one second on and seven minutes off, staggered across three chambers so that no two solenoids fire at the same time, though I do alter these setting during a grow cycle to keep things properly moist. When I move to compressed air I will need to buy timers that can do hundreds of a second which I have been putting off.

I use a GeekBeast pro with FIR and UVA set at 35-40% power for veg and about 65% for flowering, also use UVb in the last two weeks. The Beasts would be better placed in a 5X10 space, but I only have 4x8. My entire tent is set inside a 14" deep poly pond liner, which was unnecessary but I am upstairs and it gave me peace of mind.

If anyone is actually interested in building this type of system, I may be able to make life easier for you. For instance I bought fifty spray heads because I was under the impression from the typical know-it-all know-nothings that I would be continuously plagued with clogs and malfunctions. I have not had one clogged head in three grows and haven't even taken any of them apart to flush out the poly filters inside.

I use Dutch Masters hydro pro formula suite of nutes, but am considering switching to Jacks. I use RO water run through two separate deionizers charged with atomic reactor level media. The water has 0 ppm. I also add Dripfree to the nutes .04ml per gallon. That's the basic hardware. It works great, is very quiet once the roots of a grow put on some mass to stop the chambers from sounding when a solenoid opens. The pump turns on for about 3 minutes twice a day, but you can't hear it unless you are in the room. I typically use a gallon of water a day, with a 10gal flat res for all the chambers that is tucked under the chamber so the return water just flows into it without any pump.

That's really good to hear I am starting my first aero grow 1 chamber for now but I will end up with 2 for a perpetual grow eventually. I just finished building 2 different types of Chambers 1 was with the plastic totes I didn't like the plastic totes but to each there own I went with a breathable like what @Larry3215 , basically copied everything he did and guided me to do and I am in love with the entire thing of it it's a lot of fun so far and hopefully It will show In my grow same way your feeling now , I will be doing DTW for me it's ceiling height and less variables over all I know u are saying there are none but in my experience I never seen runoff that doesn't raise PH I personally never had runoff same pH as going in it has always been .2-.5 higher coming out because the roots secrete a enzime at least this is what I was taught any way I'm running 2 Tefen nozzles in each chamber , just finished testing heat inside while lights blasting directly on it and they performed very well actually! Now I have to figure out my hang time and play with timing before thowing a seedling in for the long haul ... Anyway I'm glad to see some with positive feedback!

Filtration is the key to prevent clogs so as long as you filter down lower than the size of orifices of your sprayers they shouldn't clog up. Not to say that plaque can't build up in a line then break off and plug one like it does to us folks for heart attacks and strokes. :)

I've only done DWC as far as hydro goes and years back made a DIY chiller using a fountain pump on 3/8" tubing to circulate the nutes in the Rubbermaid tub up into the water pot on a water chiller, thru about 15' of tubing then back to the tub. I cut a piece of plastic window screen and hot-glued it around the intake for the little pump so roots wouldn't get in there and never had a problem.

I just bought all the gear I need to build my own RO system. Our tap water comes from a big dugout on my property, 80x50x4m deep. We already filter it to 5µ so my rig starts with 1µ then a standard carbon filter then a 0.5µ carbon filter then the RO membrane. I'll have a take-off there for grow room water before the UV sterilizer and after the UV a take-off for the coffee maker before it goes to the calcite filter that 'polishes' the water and adds minerals for better drinking water.

Have it all laid out on the coffin table to figure out how to set it up downstairs.

What ppm is your tap water before the RO?

I have one right now that is taking about 230ppm down to 30ppm, 400gpd... it is only a basic five stager... what is the reason for the deionizers? Does that specifically help the plants? Help to lower the ppm?

New cars generally don't start breaking down within the first few thousand miles. The thing about aero, IMHO, is that there are parts that can fail more easily...if not maintained. You stay on top of any system and you'll most likely have success.

Change out those 1/4 lines and emitters each grow for the best results.

look I haven’t ran the 1/4” lines and emitters as u “say “ long enough to say one way or the other but I can’t imagine having to replace them all the time - no way , u have to run your system using clean Rez meaning pool shocK, chlorine and then after every run u can run vinegar if you like through them to break down if any salt built up and also staying on top of cleaning your inline filter.... I mean there is lots of ways to not change out the entire system or replace anything ...

But those lines and emitters are sooooooo cheap and easy to swap out when you clean between grows. Forgot to make that point in my post.

If you've got a system you've got tuned, and know how it works inside and out, then thats a different situation.
