make sure your friend is a smoker and is into the grow himself and mostly discrete. assuming that is the case, it would be helpful to tell us your budget. cheapest has to be hempy buckets, but not the best rate of growth IMO. if you can put some DIY work you can probably build a relatively cheap flood/drain system. you will need a res and a tote and a small water pump.

Its not a cheap hobby! There are ways to save money buy building DIY systems but that is not cheap either. Do your research and read others hydro grow journals listing what they have bought total it up and see if that number is one you would consider "cheap" :leaf:

There are many ways to save money by putting your handy skills and creativity to work. There are many guides on here on how to make cheap grow boxes, make extractors out of computer fans, homemade carbon filters, home made reflectors etc. Depends on how much time and effort you're willing to put in.

In addition is your housemate or yourself aware of the cost on electricity bills from running grow lights?

yeah have to agree with mike42zero it isn't cheap I just got done building a cloner and areoponic system and all together ive spent over 700 bucks that includes new nutes because I wasnt going to use my foxfarm in areo, pumps, net pots, inserts for the cloner, pvc pipe, tubs for the res., air pumps, cycle timers, hydroton, and ph ec ppm meters. money very very well spent imo

-How many plants do you want to grow?
-What sort of lighting do you want to use?
-How much space do you have to work with?

^^exactly what he stated^^

i would recommend if this is a first attempt at hydro do a single plant in a DWC system to get the feel for it use a small hid lamp like 250Whps/mh convertible light system fairly cheap but still a little over 100 for light alone. once you get a good grow under your belt then go bigger. this will also give you a good amount of time to be researching allot.
