Week 5 - Day 42 - SUPER BUSHY! Help!

Hey guys,

So I'm 42 days in since they had popped and stood above ground, everything is going awesome. My lemon zkittles reacted great to the super cropping I did. Unfortunately it was necessary to maintain a reasonable height but it did pay off so no worries there.

I am however having trouble with my lsd 25. The growth has been impressive from the start and she has lots of nice tops now all fighting for the light. The problem is, is shes so vigorous in growth she can sometimes block all of her bud sites. I'm wondering if anyone recommends some select defoliation of some of the more intrusive fan leaves in the centre of the canopy that are blocking the light. Thoughts? Will it stunt my plant being at the start of flowering or will I see more benefit in the long run from snipping a few?

This is my second grow but I am still learning. I have dialled in almost everything to how I want it to be that i can control, now all that's left is UNDERSTANDING the plant and how to react to her reacting to what I do. I got all the theory down at this point I think.

For those that are curious -

300w led UFO style
200w cfl over the lsd as booster lighting cos she fatt
I'm not sure on pot size but they are auto pots so I dont have to hand feed and the roots are suspended in clay balls and water after the coco (hope that makes sense)
Remo nutrients following full strength feeding chart because I never bought into the whole 'autos burn easier'. This might be true, but ladies and gentlemen we are growing weeds and they are very strong and resilient. They got used to it very quickly.

And that's it, let me know what you think I should do.

Id absolutely cut some of the bigger fans. Stunting is more of an issue in veg than when shes all ready done stretching and in flower. Don't be crazy, but little defoliation is fine imo.

Nice one, and thanks for the quick reply. I will dive in the tent tonight and get snipping.
I also wouldn't mind hearing what you think about lollipopping autos as well?

There are a lot of lower nodes that are going to receive squat in terms of light. I'm not going to add any side lighting this grow either just because of space issues and generally just dont want a messy tent with wires dropping all over.
Im also not sure where to start when it comes to lollipopping so dont want to take off any more than I should.

I'd get all fans off personally
Wait so all fan leaves removed and just keep sugar leaves? Sounds like a recipe for a hard freeze in any sort of development. I am conscious that the plant might go into repair mode and start fixing rather than fattening the buds.

I know I'm here asking for advice and it's very much appreciated, have you got any pictures of your girls after such heavy defoliation?

1 gallon nursery, I bought 120 on Amazon for $55 I believe. Screenshot_20190521-013428.pngScreenshot_20190405-130412.png
Which would you rather trim?IMG_20190330_045213660.jpgSingle cola plants are easier and better in all regards imo. Also, always dry plants then trim. Trust me I learned the hard way with 4 plants

Beautiful. You strip all fans the day you flip to flower and than 3 weeks of flower 1 more time? Saw that method on photos before and they STACKED on the buds for sure.

To be honest I think it was 2-3 weeks in, I did it once, none grew back.
Its a method called swazzing i think. You trim all fans on the plant and flip to flower and 3 weeks of flower do all fans agan(everything but suguars) and it will grow enough leaves to take it to flower in the next 2-3 weeks before focusing on all energy to buds. It leaves big ass buds and hardly no leaves to trim.

So took the advice of Matt because I'm too much of a pussy to take them all off hahaha. Here she is looking all sad for herself but definitely allowing light all the way through to the lower buds now.

Turns out there are a few more medium size colas there so that's nice too. Take a peak.

EDIT: I've just noticed how even that canopy is on the lsd. Its gunna be a real race to the top!!!

You'd get better use of the CFL if you used it the long way...

I know haha, I just want the led to have more coverage of the plant. It's my new light you see and I'm hoping to see how different the buds are under different light but then on the other hand I couldn't NOT put the big cfl in. So I figure I would just use it as booster light for whichever one got bushiest to penetrate the canopy better. Albeit wasted wattage.
