ways to turn buds purple

I lost my spring crop this year {here in NW Florida}. I forget how many I had of what strains, but we had a week in the 20's then two nights of 16F. The year before the low had been 25F. It burned a few buds, but didn't kill anything. I have a strain called Gorille de Raisin {Grapish X Donkey Kong} that gets really purple from the frosts. It has just a tint of purple when flowered in the fall.
Im sure there were people here that lost a spring crop this year, not sure how early they start around here. It was nice and 70+ for a while and then we got 6" of snow

why do you want to make your plant purple???
food coloring in the water will probably change the plants color but i wouldn't want to smoke it

After the two purple strains above, I'm kind of reluctant to post pictures of {untrimmed} GdR from my Spring 17 crop.

Thanks for all the replies - just to clarify, yeah I agree starting with the right genetics is important. In this case, I was already starting with a good strain known to turn purple, but it didn't actually do it until cloning, and training... Strain is Ayahuasca Purple, first couple of seeds were just lime green, but after cloning and pinching the branches, I'm seeing a lot more color... Maybe I'll post some pics later, this is a seed run though for me... Got it crossed with a unknown skunk hybrid...

I just want it because it's pretty... and it's a damn good smoke :)

Forcing a pheno to purple isn’t the same as an actual purple pheno. Most have a distinct taste and smell at least for me. I had out of the initial 30 several that were purple the rest were just beast. There’s really no reason to force a plant to turn purple other than bag appeal. Work on finding actual pheno of the traits you want. True purple lovers can tell the difference.

And what's the purpose? Just to say look at these cool purple buds?
Yeah pretty much. It's all only for myself. Really I don't care, but it's a nice side effect as long as it's not hurting the final outcome. That's really why I was curious about how natural it is to lower the temps at night, not gonna do that for the sake of electricity costs anyway.

Plus in my case, these girls were stretching really bad anyway, and the colas that I bent over are looking to be the best of the bunch. Lights have been able to stay close enough too because the canopy is better... I did it the second week of flower on two tall branches as a test...
