Watts from wall (led)

the more i read the more confused i get - looking at the cheaper led amazon type panels I was led to believe watts from wall was the way to measure (to a degree) how efficient the light will be.. ok so looking at lights light quantum boards or perfect sun or spectrum king I see claims some fairly astonishing yeild claims. So do watts from wall realy matter I know im currently running mars hydro reflector 96 and i mix it with a t5 running
3 -6500k bulbs and 1-2700k bulb this grow i expect about 4 zipps from a 2.5 x3 grow so total is 290 watts for 104 dry grams can someone sorta point me in the right direction and i know mars why did i buy a mars etc.... one at the time i bought the led industry was all about red/blue and mars had the mostbalanced reviews - spectrum and footprint for my grow. So awhats best kelvin and light type considering the newer led options and how important are watts from wall

3k is what all my lights are. Quantum boards and newer series cobs or strips are the way to go

Hooha what kind of yeild are you getting from
Quantum board and (i use soil) incase it matters but what would you expect to pull using 260 wat qb and Have you seen or used the photon fantom boards. And why no 2700k or 6500k ay more or am i just having trouble letting go of what i believed to be best spectrum. I hate to be a pest but im so confused with all this new led stuff im mean its exciting but confusing

Ppfd is a useful indicator. But essentially, you want to look at the efficiency rating of the diodes used, the efficiency of the driver, and spectrum. The less energy that you waste on heat and unusable spectrums the less total power you need to produce the desired ppfd

Depends between my now two rooms I run close to 6k in Watts. I just got the qb lights,2 hlg 600h to replace my older citizen 1818’s. Yield is so subjective due to all the factors involved but a 260 qb light will out do the 290 you were rocking.

Dang your running some wattage - so i shoildnt place as much emphasis on kelvin as what i had origanaly learned to do ??

Yeah but I learned that heavy blue and heavy red was all ya need now looking at the qb spectrum its much different im just having trouble un learning i suppose

what would you say is the best color spectrum or kelvin to run from say 6 inch clone to flower

600 to 700 watts of 3590 cobs in 12 sq ft will yield ~ 800 grams in soil. By a novice. I would imagine QBs would-be the same or a bit better.

See I don’t like giving numbers because every grower is different. Are they topping, scrogging, strain, it it auto flower or photo, grower knowledge and skill. All of it plays a big role. That’s why the make shift answer is “about a pound” lol.

So are you familiar with the photon fantom boards at all or are they hust sort of a knock off (not to be derogatory towards them) but obviously qb was first of that type - its just that the photon wavy board has different/ mixed spectrum any opinion on them the are a lottle less expensive also

1 top, 5 gallon bucket, 4 plants, 3 weeks veg after transplant. Some strains will get less. The strains I would run such as GU gear mostly will be 800 grams give or take. Photo only. Very little knowledge and skills. Peters nutrients and ro water. Lots of calmag. Not many variables.

Watts from the wall is a good measure of the light in general for me wether led hps plasma cmh or flouro. It will also dictate the running costs per cycle or grow. If you have an led that advertises at 1000w but only pulls around 600w id rate it 600watt and avoid the marketing hype.

Many an old style led light that now sells for dirt cheap will yeild you a decent amount of smoke, id go for it if its cheap and unpgrade as you go. Tyke here did a cheapo mars led grow sometime back, very impressive if you can find it in his journal, pineapple exspress or somthing, i forget the strain.

Thank you for your input guys, but one last queastion optics 1 or2 cobs or 260 qb for 3x3 flowere area any preference between cob and qb

Not so ppfd is what you want, a 1000 watt hid light give off anywhere from 1000 to 1200ish ppfd. The new qb boards are capable of producing 1200 to 1400ish using 600 Watts. I’ll be testing these new qb lights with my par meter when I put these up. Numbers don’t lie.

The 260 would do extremely well in a 3x3.
