watering problems

what up pot heads here my issue......im in a 4x5 secrect jardin tent in a shed....temps get to sometimes beyond 90 heres the problem ...a lot of books and people say i should water once or every other day and thats from people growing indoor with good temps....but my moisture meter says i dont need to water...do i stick the whole meter in all the way down of just half way???????????????????? and being in these freakin africa temps you would think everyday watering is good but my meter is telling me every 4 days or 3 the top of the soil when you put the meter says dry but when it goes say about past 2 inches it reads moist any tipssssssssssssssssssssssssssss??????????????????????

Your meter works. If you plant in the ground the lower parts of soil will still be moist because the sun rays can't penetrate the soil;so the top or crust of the earth will be dry. I live in Cali and I always wait until the top of my soil has cracks in the top of soil,then I will water really well.

thanks 4 the tip... i think your right im in florida there in 3 gal pots so ...how many times a week you hit them up with water??????????

I have three in a five gallon pot and I usually water them twice a week. I know to water them when I check the pot when the fist inch of soil is dry,by lifting the pot,take note of the weight; then I will water until the water is at the top of the pot and I know that will be plenty until next watering.

ohhhhh ok i get you ...thanks dog you being in cali really helps cause you got temps like florida ...so twice a week it is ...any other tips for our type of climate??????????????

No,just don't be afraid to see the crust dry. The roots grow along the tops of soil and down and throughout to search for moisture. I guarantee that you can over water a plant before you can under water one.
