Water temps ?

What happens if your Water temps are @80 degrees ?
If the roots never see any light will this still cause problems.

This is also a situation where a chiller is not an option. No more energy can be consumed by the grow for personal reasons.

Larger airpump, airstone or both. Drop the temps in your room. Turn down the a/c. Other than a chiller, that's all I can think of. And yes, temps for a res in the upper 70's is dangerous.

Well you are gonna have to do what you have to do but a water chiller is your only option unless you are gonna have to keep puttin frozen water bottles in you res now thats to time consuming for me, but yea if the res temp is above 70f your at risk of root fungi keep the res temps around 60f-68f i chose 60f because water tends to hold more air in it when its at that temp

chillers are 150+ $! If water temps need to be 68 then everyone that does hydro would need a water chiller because most grow rooms are 75-80 degrees and I find that hard to believe... Are your buckets black? I remember you saying they never get light so I assume there black. Black absorbs heat. Try painting them white on top of the black to reflect heat and light. What is the temp of your room? a/c unit in there? Good ventilation?

I added a 5 gal bucket to my bubbleponics system put about 2 gal in the bucket and drop in a frozen milk jug 2 times a day keeps the water from 62 to 70 at the most, theirs a pump in the bucket pumps water in to the res, then theirs a drain tube at the 6 gal mark in the res to drain the water back.

I agree with the frozen water bottles ...they are FREE...you could use old plastic milkjugs or whatever (rinsed out) and the water in them can be plain tapwater (it wont matter cause it never mixes with the res water ) ....it's relatively easy and free ...it takes 1 minute a day.... good luck man

ALSO...cold air drops ...and your bins are at the bottom of whatever...so ...I would alos Use 1 or 2 GALLON size jugs with frozen water in them...and set them right on the floor next to the bin on the outside ...they will radiate cold for hours and help bring the floor area temp down a little ....

the only thing I dont like about that is the bottles take up a lot of root space... but idk never done it

Bleach has no effect on the plants taste or potency. Running .5 ppm is still less then what you drink out of your tap.

So if i use an insulated res and added 1 or 2 frozen milkjugs would that do the trick each day.

Or because its recirculating would that not matter, the water would circulate through the system warm up and flush back the rez prolyl melt the ice within an hour ?

It reminded me of the all stories I heard as a kid of people soaking their cigs in bleach or whiteout. "that shit will fuck you up!" people used to say.... I always knew it was a dumb idea, even before I actually knew what getting high was like! What are people thinking...

I suggested MIlkjugs for your room (outside the res....just to keep floor air temps (around the res) a little cooler) ....you know ?...Like put a frozen milkjug full of water , on the floor (on something waterproof...a towel or a plastic plate or something ...cause it will sweat and drip a little) BUT it willkeep the air temps around your resivior a little cooler...... then ...

AS FOR INSIDE the res (how big is your resivior again ?) I have 10 gallon reseviors....and I use 1 or 2 Little frozen bottles a day (i use 16oz. drinking water bottles ...and just rotate them) make about 8 total... and switch them out twice a day.... in the morning put 2 from the freezer into the res and take the melted ones out of the res and put them in the freezer .... and then switch them again 12 hours later.....it becomes a simple routine that keeps your water cool

IDk ...I would work on one issue at a time .... Bring those temps down first....THEN see if you need to treat the roots for damage ... just My opinion

i also have a 10 gallon res, and ive been putting half gallon ziploc bags full of ice into my DWC res, but that thing melts within 20 minutes. Im worried that this will only cool the water for a few hours, before temperatures rise again. At the moment, I dont have a thermometer to measure the water, but ambient temperature around the res is ~78 degrees

i have to use chillers cause its like 100 f out side here in the summer, the heat is a bitch but in winter i have no problems.

High DWC water temps have always been a problem for me as well....this time I've totally covered my rubbermaid roughneck tote with HVAC aluminum foil tape...it's dark as hell in there now...just gotta cover the sight tube with some pipe insulation (that can be removed) and I'm hoping I won't have the high water temps again...

water chiller is not an option for me at this time either

I might have to go the frozen 16oz bottle trick if it happens again as well

let me educate you a little.. the high water temps cause algae growth and bacteria, that is why its a problem... and by using .05ppm of bleach jeffersonbud is saying it will kill the algae and bacteria and then it wont really matter if your temps are 80 but thats just my guess..
