Water PH help [Question]

So If i get city water from the faucet in my kitchen and boil it for a few minutes will it be pure of the chemicals? If so can i pour baking soda into it and test the ph of the water and if its alkaline enough can i use it to water my babies.

Whoa, man... That sounds like a whole lot to go through... Just go buy some distilled water from your local grocery store. Its generally just a dollar a gallon, and the Ph will be perfect..

Once you get your Ph issue resolved, buy one of these.

Well im a cheap ass but I have bottled deer park water and stuff I just was curious if i ever ran out could i just boil water and add baking soda

Why baking soda and why boil...let it sit out a day and its fine....technically u don't even gotta do that...

what do you mean? can you explain more please thanks and I was boiling it to clean it because they say city water has chemicals in it and are you sure its fine if i dont add baking soda to raise the ph?

boiling water will just burn off the chlorine or you can just leave it sit for a couple of days
about ph you need to be able to measure it to know what to do with it typically tap water measures 7-8 ph 7 being pure water and 8 being slightly alkaline
if you add baking soda not only will you drive the ph in wrong direction but you will probably just make poison water that will kill your plant
i would opt for the $1 solution of a gallon of distilled water

Question:
Are you growing in soil?
If you are, and your tap water is municipal you can get a report....
And most likely you never [like me] need to ever worry about PH...
Hydro... PH away... Soil never PH, the soil is like a filter... and buffer...

Does your tap water smell of chlorine ? If it does just let water set out in a container over night...
Boiling it rids water of the "O" in H2O, and our plants need the "O"...

Good question... I should add... If your growing in soil, you can just add dolomite lime to the soil before growing in it, and you'll probably never have to worry about Ph.

But just like a filter ur soil can get "dirty" or in this case too acidic from adding feeding solutions with a high acdic value....for soil, lime us the answer for pH....and yes just sit ur water out...all u need to do...I gro dro and that's how I do it

boiling the water doesn't make it "distilled".....distilled is captured evaporated condensation iirc....think distilled spirits like whiskey "still".......if you have a water machine at a nearby grocery store or drug store that stuff is awesome....25 cents per gallon here...7.0ph and 0ppm....my local tap is chlorinated 180ppm....I opt for the machine water fwiw.

Check out purewaterclub.com. They have good deals on portable r.o. systems. They work very well. Some packages come with spare filters so you dont have to order filters for a long time.

Absolutely! I'm not even growing atm, and I'll never sell my reverse osmosis system. I actually had it removed from my old house when I got locked up.

Ohh so all i have to do is just let it sit over night and itll get distilled? and what do you think the PH of the water would be? just an estimate? and my local walmart has a water machine i may buy a big ass load of it or just some 1 gallon juggs

No. Letting it sit overnight does not distill the water only evaporates the chlorine, ph should remain whatever came out the tap I bet at least 7.5.
Distilling water is just like distilling spirits.....only the spirits use a mash instead of just water....outlined here:

Honestly the chlorine in your tap is fine, you might let it evaporate but the true test as to weather or not to use the tap is going to be ppm as in parts per million and of what?.....and PH....which can be adjusted with ph down, lemon juice or whatever.

Then it might be chloramine as well.....which is no biggie either if you know what to do about that, I don't but recall a post from member hyroot yesterday that outlines what to do there....I will try and find it.

Honestly I would just recommend the machine water....the ppm should be zero and ph should be 7.0......if this becomes a big hobby for you then you might consider the RO system in your home.

Personally I would go for the Wal-Mart machine water should be way cheaper per gallon vs a gallon of store bought distilled.
