hey everyone everywhere I tried a refrigerator and put a radiator in it with a fan and 100 feet of tubing and the thing could only keep up for 4-6 hours depending on the outside temp. So I need to give up and get a chiller. My question is what H/P Rating do I need for a 600 watt HPS with a 45 gallon rez of water. On 1000 watters they say a 1/4 H/P but I have found many smaller systems 1/5HP 1/10HP etc.

Insulating it would surely help cut down on the amount of energy required to keep it cool.

I use a small air conditioning unit to regulate the temp in my outdoor hydro unit. (400 Gal. Reservoir) Though the airspace around my reservoir is enclosed.

Just an idea.

Good Luck!

check your aquarium shops for a used one and think about getting an ice chest for your resivoir. check out my set up in my signature.

I don't think you guys understand that I need advice on the power rating. With a 600 watt light and a 45 gallon tank do I need a 1/4 HP or 1/10 hp etc

i use 1/4 horse with a 20 gallon run with a 1000hps. it's big time overkill but it's not having to work nonstop to keep up. so my advice would to buy the biggest one you can afford.
