You for real? To grow twenty plants…. and maybe find a good phenotype
Yeah, I'm just curious why you're growing twenty at once.

Usually if someone is pheno hunting, they'll pop a handful of seeds, weed out the males (if they don't intend on breeding) clone the females, and grow out the clones so they can preserve a pheno they like.

If you're doing that with 20 plants, I'm very interested in seeing how you go about it.

How long have you been growing? It doesn't sound like very long.

For $20 a seed you shouldn't have to pop 20 seeds to find a keeper. I've never paid that much for a seed in my entire life and never will. I don't know where some of you come up with all this pheno hunting stuff. If a strain is bred properly it's going to be stable meaning that there will be little variation from seed to seed. It should be as advertised not all over the map like a pollen chuck. As for best strain of the year says who?

You should have put this in the Grow Journal section not the Advanced section.

Almost all plants from seeds have different phenotypes. Some more than others. You usually grow landrace strains if I remember right, and those are the exception to the rule.

Here's the info for Pineapple Express from G13

4 phenotypes. I thought it was 4 but wanted to double check first.

@xtsho

Bodhi is a stable Breeder...
I unknowingly started Pheno Hunting Golden Triangle
TK x GreenCrack x Chem D...
Fucking Genius as far as a chuck goes...
But In a 12 pack ...
I came out with wild pheno types
Chem Leaners
Crack Leaners
& TK Leaners...

They werent all in the same harvest though...
Thats how I learn to RESPECT pheno hunts...
The Smoke & Bag Appeal on Some Was Incredible
My 1st bean was UGLY...My 6th-8th beans were ...Low Leaf to Bud-- DANK Machines

I want to breed a NEW strain...
Malawi Select Male x Nepalese Select Female....Hunt about 40 F1's
But I MIGHT find what Im looking for In F2's

Then Take the F2's/or/F1's & cross to a SOLID Jamaican...
Then find The Keepers & Bx with
-Widow (Brazil & India)
-OG (Paki/Hindu/Thai)
Or Affie or Alien Tech
To Get TIGHT NUGGS...
Fuck Flowering Times...I want Bud Structure.

I want a Lucid Dream, Trance Like, Narcotic, Non Tolerance ...Pheno
I dont think I have it in Me right now to say I want to IBL The Cutt, though

I am quite aware of different phenotypes. With good breeding there should be little variation. It's called phenotype uniformity and is what plant breeders are looking to achieve when starting a breeding project. I can go buy a specific variety of tomato from seed and plant ten of those seeds with all plants growing tomatoes that are so similar that any differences between plants is indistinguishable. That's because most plant breeding is done at a higher level and by people with actual education in the field of plant breeding. That's not true for cannabis breeding where just being popular on Instagram or Strainly makes you a breeder in the cannabis world.

I know more about the actual science of plant breeding than a good amount of the pollen chuckers out there hawking their wares on social media. I have strains I've created that I spent years working on that If I plant 20 seeds I'll get 20 plants that are virtually identical. All these different phenotypes from the same strains didn't start occurring until the explosion of pollen chuckers in the United States started pumping stuff out as fast as the could collect and chuck pollen on something else. Their only real goal is selling seeds for profit not breeding a strain using proper breeding methodology.

I've been growing cannabis for over 40 years so I don't know why my recent interest in growing landrace strains has any relevance. It gives me a clean slate to do actual breeding instead of just chucking pollen from one polyhybrid onto another. Which is exactly why I choose to grow them. It's like starting from a blank canvas to create my own strains which I'm doing.

Im on the hunt for a type of high...

Heavy narcotic + Trippy + Trance/Lucid
This has lead me to Landrace plants.
Kinda like remaking skunk & haze

We have so much breeding already done for us but we arent taking full advantage.

Respectfully...Fuck Thai.
When you start to look at breeding it all adds up.

brazil sativa x Indian indica = white widow
colombian x mexican x afgan = skunk
mex. x colombian x thai x india = haze

fast foward to TODAY.
paki x thai x nepal** = og kush

So...
WTF are we doing 30 years later bro!!!??

We should have been LIGHT YEARS from where we are....
We should have had 20+ Staple strains...
Not just Cookies

I get it...
We all got caught in a strain vortex...with everyone learning how to grow & chuck.

Plus we got side tracked with pheno types from the breeding projects of the old school.

with all the legal states we should have had another strain vortex by now.
NL5. Super Silver Haze. Widow
vs
AK47. BBerry. Gdp
vs.
sour diesel. OgK. Urkel
vs
Blue Dream. Zkittles. Cookies. Purple punch.

Its time for a vortex bro.
I said the same SHIT Broski

Almost all plants do have diff phenos from seed but it's because they aren't stabilized cultivars...that's true too. Not many breeders willing to take the time and energy for the small reward. Lot more reward in a quick f2 or clone dump. A lot of LR exhibit a couple phenotypes as well.

If I have a cultivar that is PERFECT...
It Captures All My desires & checks all boxes
I would be leery about Trying to create an IBL...

I think I would lose the very Key Points That I selected The Ultimate Keeper For...
& I'd be pissed if I had Chucked & Hunted 4 Strains, & performed various backcrosses & selections... to get said Ultimate Keeper.
I'd break some shit...
