true, and obviously turn the ringer off, but is it possible that they can detect us anyways? even most cars have tracking systems in them now! what about that issue? I don't have one in mine, but theoretically how can one prevent being followed by vehicle?
they don't need the GPS to be on. they can turn it on if they REALLY wanted to.. trust me on that one. ;)

But yeah, they don't even really need your GPS. All they have to do.. is ping the phone. Kinda like when you ping an internet protocol (IP adress) adress.

just my 2 cents..

Actually we (neighbors) used to use track phones that dont have your real name on them for notifying eachother of any suspicious activity. We had a DEA scare on our road, and I was notified to move some plants and get anything with my name on it ready to go. We also used them when suspected ripp offs were on the road.

I think your being a bit paranoid. I've been at my crop when helecopters swooped in and the whole year prior I was worried about every sound I heard. Sketching doesn't do you any good. When they come, they come and if you can hide your plants, if you dont have the time, get the fuck out. If think you are big time enough that you are being tracked like that they'll nail you phone or no.

He said possible, not plausible..

Cops remotely activate gps's all the time, although it's not gonna happen to anyone of us just for growing.
Unless your an escaped convict rollin around in your grow van, or a terrorist. Lol

But still to be on the safe side, if I had a big grow op in a grow house, you bet your biggest cola I'd be takin my battery out before I got anywhere close.

agreed, we have to keep in mind that there is likely a rechargable built in battery as well as the removable which may keep the GPS function in tact when powered off. possibly. You guys do what you want, I'm not bringing the phone, if there's an emergency i have a knife and bearspray and am never going to call for help when I'm in a grow anyway.thanks for everyones input

Hmm, I don't buy that the gps functions when the power is off or batteries are pulled out. I'll look into it.
It doesn't function when the battery is removed, but they can be remotely activated when the phone is turned off on most newer smart phones.

This stuff interests me, I'm a legal medical patient in my state but I still want to know these things. I started a thread in another section requesting that the security forum be moved into the free area of the site since elite membership has been disabled for a while. Link below if anyone is interested, there's no info there, just thinking maybe if enough people express interest the mods might oblige?

if you study the patriot act.... government entities can do basically anything they want, and that is a fact. I took a class back in high school school and we actually read the patriot act. I am also a bank manager and I am very, very, very, familiar with monetary regulations. the patriot act is tied into everything, and I mean everything.

I'm not saying leave your phone at home, but smartphones can be tracked by GPS even by the phone company simply to locate a lost phone. I would not suggest loading pictures from an iphone/smartphone. Also, your ignorant if you dont think that keywords in a conversation over the phone dont initiate tapping.

I HATE acting like a know it all on a thread, but I feel like after years and years of learning and continuing up with BSA laws and diff regulations, I've stuffed my brain with great information. Pretty much just be smart, if any part of the government wants you, they can have you, on their time. :/

The real point here is that they would have to have reason to suspect you first. If they have that reason, you're going to lose. They check the trash, power bill, bank accounts, the whole nine yards. This is IF they have reson to suspect you. What is the #1 reason they would have to suspect you? Someone told them to.

Grow room security has always come down to not telling anyone you're doing it. Forget the phones, the power bill, the infared. It's all about silence.

My friend just got busted. Someone ratted on him. The police placed a gps tracking device on his car. They tracked his car to a warehouse, then walked around the warehouse where he was growing, claimed to smell pot (which they didn't...I had been there...no odor at all), got a search warrant based on the "smell", and the party was over. The only thing he could have avoided here was the rat. Once the ratting is done, it's all over.

its easy to say fuck the police and ow we dont need them but the truth is as fucked as they are we do need
them. yah the way leo handles growers of all types is rong but thats the system we live in! I just wish they
would target crack/meth dealers over MM/rec smokers. are leaders of this country have it all rong, and to
think ive spilled blood for it and I still cant smoke/grow for personal on a federal law when state says its legal.

so I say fuck those laws!!

those anti static bags that some electronics come in work wonders for isolating electronics from tracking. works like a farady cage. you can even keep it on and with you....

There are apps that can make your phone a "zombie", but it needs to be uploaded to your phone manually and takes about 5 minutes, so if you let someone access your phone and they want to pay $1500 to control it, then ok, your security is fucked.
