*WANTED* UVB Growers with experience

I called them and after I begged for the light, they gave me their shitty us-can conversion and an additional $10. for being canadian I told them to piss off and bought a rep light 20w will post later on about the model, setup and effectiveness. Thanks again for the info, will try them again when I get over being so bitter.

I found. Hmmm, I may have seen it posted at another forum, if so,

of different zoological UVB and heat lamps for a russian tortiose! lol

The info is great, the reason I said the 60 W is I have a 4x5 closet with
a 600 w HPS and the 2 zoologic lights might turn my babys to Iguanaskin!
So for me, it seemed that external ballast 60w might work best to hang
down one on each side of the 600, i thought I could get closer without the blockage from the tube model.And they are rated as adding NO HEAT.
Maybe that is from an iguanas perspective.....marketing execs........

anyway heres the digits and yes those higher watt bulb are great as long as you live in saskatchewan or maybe iceland? Pun intended, but they are
"reptile HEAT lamps"!!!!

Yeah I suppose it does, truth is though the rep light made a nice difference to the finished product, will use it more extensively from start of flower next time.

The only thing I have for comparision is with uvb and without, and the 400w hps eye hortilux, a few side cfls..

why actinic lights? 425nm sounds like a uvA light. how much UVB do they put out?

Here is its spectrum, and according to what I read about where the plants start to really take in the light starts 380-400nm and its peak in this spectrum is 400-520nm. This is of course supplemental light.

the work from Pate (1994) Chemical Ecology of Cannabis - talks in its experiments about UVB (280-315nm) as being the photoactive component. in this set of experiments UVA (up to 400nm) light is not referenced.

maybe you might be better off with a light in the 270-320nm range. I havn't seen any UVB actinic lights.... If its the deep blue light of the spectrum you are looking for, then i would go with LED lighting.

LED is not proven yet, or at least as much as other types. According to the research I have found, these plants do not use the 270-300nm range, that also puts you into the spectrum of a blacklight. And in my opinion lights in that spectrum is useless.

this thread is about uvb. what is it that your trying to do? what research it is that you've found saying that uvb in the 270-300 range is useless?

You need to remember that you need to mimic natured, i have found that timing your uvb lamps to go at 5 min @ the beginning of the day and maxing out at 20 min in the peak and back down to 5 min at the end of the day. this i do every hour for the 12. As far as penetration its about 20 in., mine are hooked up in parallel with my lights. the results have been worth it, the piney smell that fills my room after the lights on is great. i start turning them on at 2-3 weeks when trichomes are present. the trich's will finish in a more amber and mature state. definitely filled my head with all sorts of good ideas. I hope this will help some, good luck.

i read that uvb light induce the plant to produce resin as leaf protection.
if u know this plant mechanism, in my mind u can produce xtrmly resinous buds.
ill try this when my babies get into flowering. they r just 1 month in veggie state.
maybe in hashplant it works great

I would like to give some insight into UV-B light.
My background: I am currently studying to become an Exotic Veterinarian. I am working on my Thesis paper right now, on Metabolic Bone Diseases associated with reptiles. I also used to breed Panther Chameleons and Uromastyx.

UV-A light ranges between 320-400 nm, UV-B light ranges between 290-320 nm, and UV-C 180-290 nm. UV-C light is dangerous (lethal) to all living organisms.

UV-B light cannot be transferred through normal glass. Glass will filter out UV-B light. According to the meter at school my Hilux Gro MH conversion bulb produced no UV-B with a lumen rating of 38,800. The typical lizard lamps that produce UV-B light are not made from typical glass (ie. Silicate) but instead are made from quartz. The approx life of a "Lizard Fluorescent Lamp" is 6 months, with the exception of the Mercury Vapor bulbs at 1 year. UV-B penetration solely depends on the close proximity of the lamp to the plant. The UV-B is drastically reduced when kept further than 12 inches.

You are right, consider this. UV-B is actually not liked by plants. Consider the resin to be a form of Sun Block for the plant. It is it's own self defense against protecting itself from the harmful rays of UV-B light.

How about mercury vapor? The one grow I did with it....i got the most potent plants I had ever grown, not to mention that the buds were far thicker than they had been the in the past. All with just a 175w mercury bulb added during flowering (alongside a 430w HPS Son Agro).
