Want to help

Hey guys, I'm a lawyer who works in this space on the finance side. Have been involved with the MMAR and MMPR communities for a few years (even though a lot of you still know far more about the regs and their practical application than I do), and want to be helpful somehow in the fray here.

I have access to some great legal resources - both on the regs and the finance angles - so if there's anything I can do to help, please let me know. This isn't an advertisement - I don't want your money - I just want to know what issues are important to you guys, and maybe help if I can. PM me if it's a sensitive question.

Have you been in a court room defending a patient or user being tried for a criminal offence? Considering super cops think were all criminals.

GOOGLE is your friend people.

Hey Pretty Face. Stick around. It won't take long to understand what HC and the feds want to do.
Simply put. Its about Money. Not sick people after all. HC says that on their site once a month, in a round about way .
LP's cannot grow even mediocre medications. They don't have enough to go around. People wait!. Don't get their orders. Get told over and over "its coming" It goes on and on and on.
The LP's just don't know what the fuck they are doing, so far anyway.
The Government in its hurry to make cash....fucked up the system we had in place. They made it worse. Largest fraudulent system there could be.
No illegal grower is going to stop even if they are told to. Its a farce.
Sadly...they only thing that will fix this...Is to legalize it ...

We want easy access to medical marijuana, for all walks of life, not just those who can afford to pay the ridiculous prices under this proposed MMPR program. Or, have to buy it illegally for slightly lower cost, if they can find a reliable source. We want it to be recognized and covered under insurance plans, like all pharma drugs, many of them addictive and more damaging than our medicine. We want the right to grow our own medicine, not be told where and what we can buy. We want the right to make or buy edibles, oils, hash with our homegrown medicine, a huge gap/hole in the MMPR program. Health Canada needs a high level management clean-up and needs to be run as a health resource and service for Canadians. Their mandate needs to be helping sick people, considering and acknowledging alternative medicines. Not playing puppet to the government of the day, putting hurdles in the way, or being downright threatening to those growing their own meds. We want a lot. I for one will continue growing my own meds under the radar until all of these needs are addressed and enacted in law. It's not negotiable.

How does that old commercial go....? "If I give one to you, I have to give one to everyone!". ;-) Seriously, it seems to me that almost everyone that is out there bragging and showing off their site is either got a huge ego or needs a huge input of cash. My ego is not that big and I don't need investors. My site is small and I can fund it, and wait out Health Canada until they are able to continue processing LPs. I am fortunate that I don't have investors breathing down my back, waiting for Health Canada.

Thanks for coming out and offering help! Do you have any idea why Health Canada seems to have stopped inspections of future LPs and how to get an inspection?

Class action vs HC re MMPR licensing delays?
HC's obligation to issue a license is stated in the regs but no timeline is provided for doing so. I'm not sure if there would be strong grounds for a class action as the prospective applicants would have difficulty establishing a) that they were a class (you'd have to establish that you were ALL going to get a licence for sure - hard to establish due to our collective waiting position) and b) that you suffered damages (again, hard, as market dynamics are still working themselves out - not clear that even if all applicants were licensed that people would make money. Indeed, the more LP's, the less avg market share each has access to). Not impossible to consider legal challenges, but I'd try alternative courses of action before the courts.

Thanks GB. I'd like to learn everything I can about both the official and unofficial versions of this industry. Feed me info.

Thank you for this GroErr. I really appreciate it. It's so valuable to hear this from your perspective. What would be the most important first step for you in all of this?

Thanks MarijeJane. My info is that they're worried about flooding the market with LPs. Once Tweed figures their shit out they're capable of producing (in THEORY, you understand) enough product to supply quite a bit of the market. And that's just one LP.

Before everyone jumps me - I'm explaining from HC's perspective. I think we can all agree that HC doesn't care about the quality of the product or whether or not people want it. They just care about available quantity so they can pass constitutional muster. And they don't want egg on their face for approving so many LPs that the market crashes next year from lack of demand (seeing as clever folks like you guys are already undermining their system).

The injunction, of course, is the cherry on top and threatens the whole system. So yes, if I was HC (considering again from their position and their interests only) I'd be keeping the reins very tight right now. Better to be accused of under-licensing than to have the system get out of their control (which is what they perceive would occur with many LPs running about and making it difficult for them to control compliance). It's the deer-in-the-headlights type of thing, I think. That's what I've got from my information, anyway.
