wall/window a/c question

I've certainly read a lot on the subject and was curious if anyone has found sealed compressor units to control odor from outside the grow room. What i've done in the past is use spray foam to seal holes, etc.

Also, wondering if people are using the modern wall/window a/c's with a climate controller? Aside from making sure that the unit wouldn't cycle on and off quickly, I noticed a lot of the newer electronic units have the ability to remember what the setting was at prior to the power going off which in essence is what the climate controller is doing.

In my situation, I'm looking for a 8-10k btu unit that is really reliable. any thoughts?

much appreciated!

You already have it figured out. For one, you know that you have to work on the unit to truly separate the inside and outside halves- in my case it was leaking light. Also, you spotted the "power out restart" feature, which is a must have.

Unless your room is really tiny, you don't have to worry about short cycling. One thing you might consider for more absolute control is using a heavy duty timer to control when the hing is on or not. I used to use a little cheapy unit, and it had dials so I set it, then used a timer to decide when it was on and not.

You might look into a "mini-split" system, which are kind of the next step up from window bangers, more expensive but really a killer solution to piping in cold. Most start around 9000 btu, right where you need. Google it.

Good Luck!

Bron, thanks for the replay. in my current system the a/c unit is hooked up to a sentinel chhc-4. I tend to not run the units on full blast so that they run longer. Then I also get reduced humidity. :)

At the moment my budget doesn't allow for a mini-split, so I'll have to find a decent wall unit to tie me over. I think what I'll do is build my room bigger, say 10x10, and then add the mini-split when I add more lights. Found some Shinco's and a website dedicated to selling mini-splits for under 1k for a 12k btu setup. I guess what I'm unsure of is how to do a day/night temp difference if I were to use a mini-split. I wish they made a system where you could dial in the temp you wanted according to the time of day

I think as with everything, I tend to over think the situation more than required. :)
