ok i've always wanted a volcano, but is it really worth it? i'd love to hear first-hand experiences from people and maybe tips on temperature etc.

also, what is the difference between easy valve and solid valve? which should i get?

they go for pretty cheap on ebay. i think i might go that route as i've heard volcanos are pretty durable..

I have the digital and I am very happy with it. I have the solid valve. I did not get the easy valve because you can't change the bags and they are all the same size. With the solid valve I can make my bags any size I want. But the beauty is you can buy both valves, try them and keep using the one you love.

thank you for your input. honestly now that i think about it i'm not sure why i made this thread. i don't think there is anything someone could say to stop me from getting the volcano. i've wanted one since i was like 11 years old why wouldn't i get one when i finally have the means to? lol..

still interested in all input though since i did make the thread.

You're welcome. I'd get the solid valve first. You can simply buy turkey bags at the store to replace your bags. They also sell rolls pretty inexpensively. That will keep you in business. When all the easy valve's fail the you have to buy a new set. So yeah I'd start with the Solid valve.

Congrats on your decision. I bet you'll never have to buy another one. I love my Volcano and my Pax LOL

Hey CCC.
As a matter of fact I picked one up just a week ago. I got the classic version with the solid valve for $500 ($535 with tax included) at my LHS. Quite a bargain if you ask me. Now for my review.
I have personally owned and thoroughly used the Magic Flight Launch Box, Arizer Extreme-Q, and T-Vape.
Considering the only one we can actually compare it to is the Extreme-Q, I shall give you my two cents on that.
I love my Extreme-Q. I remember the first day I got it, it actually got me so high, I had to cancel plans I had made. LOL. While the extreme has the capability for balloons, I honestly do not recommend it. While I used them on various occasions, I never felt I got the best hit from them so I would always revert to the whip. Now combining the whip with the remote control will lead to some very nice hits. Another detail about the extreme that I think sometimes is overlooked are the amounts of parts. For an everyday toker like myself, cleaning can become a hassle. I love all my pieces; Glass or not, and always strive for cleanliness but with the extreme it was crazy. No matter whether you are using the whip or balloon, there was always something dirty.
Now on to the Volcano...
I have had it for a week and I love it. I got it so I would be able to put down my glass for a bit (Gravlabs!!) and let my lungs recover. I have used it everyday so far and, at least for me, it brings everything a smoker wants into one single package. In the entire week, I have put about 10 -12 grams through it. I have yet to notice a part that looks dirty. I understand that with either valve system once a while it requires you to disassemble it for a thorough cleaning. But by far the biggest difference so far has been that gap in between every cleaning. With glass or every other vape Ive had, I found myself at least one or twice a week taking everything apart for cleaning, with the Volcano, Ive yet to see a sign that anything needs attention. Also another giant plus but mainly for me is no glass parts. I break more glass than Id even like to count or admit to. So the ability to be able to drop something accidentally and not ruin the day is a big plus.
And now, finally onto the volcano vapor quality, in the one week, it has yet to disappoint me. Balloons are consistent and its simplicity does not get old.
Simply fill the chamber and pop it on there! I love it everytime. And finally...It looks really really cool just sitting there.

Cheers.

thank you fonsi that was a superb first-hand experience report! i also was looking at the extreme q but now that you've said what you said my hesitation has been reinforced. gravlabs is the shit! you ever used their glass gravitron lol? you probably smoke a decent bit so 10-12 grams/week is not too much. i break alotta shit too...so this is good to hear. i bet it does look cool sitting there lol. refer to cannabaneer's post and imagine that car sitting in your driveway. i'd imagine that's what it's like to have the volcano sitting on your countertop! haha.

i'll update if i end up getting one. it's looking like i might.

Volcano is worth every penny, the people in oakland the techs are super cool I've been using mine daily since 2003 im actually waiting for it to die on me but still working like day 1. Yes should should save alot of herb a nug or two and I can fill up the chamber for the day

You figure the price would change for better or worse but new classic canos have been in $480-500 range since forever...

you aren't the first person i've heard to have been using it for 10 years and it still be kickin' as it was on day 1. that's another reason i wanted it. shit if the piece conserves bud the way people say it does and it lasts 10+ years then it's a pretty damn good investment..

Hey CCC, I don't think you can go wrong with the volcano. I've had a classic w/ solid valves for a couple of years. (You could really call the solid valve, "almost as easy" valve). I fully expect it to last the rest of my life, or at least until I get so senile I don't know what I'm doing anymore.

As far as the maintenance goes, you change the bag every few weeks & take the baloon clip, mouthpiece, & heating chamber apart and clean them every couple of weeks as well. It's really not that hard and I'm not the most mechanically inclined person you'll ever meet. Takes about 1/2 hour or so to do everything after you get the hang of it. The stock volcano bags work better and last longer than the turkey bags. I use the turkey bags as party bags as they hold a lot. When I'm solo vaping I use a regular bag. They come in a 3 meter roll (9'10") I've experimented with different bag sizes and find starting off with 25-26" or so works for me. With a little practice you won't waste much of the bag tieing off the top and attaching the bottom to the clip.

As far as temperatures go, it depends on what you want. THC or the medicinal compounds. There are posts here detailing what temperature the various compounds vaporize. I like to get high (THC), so I usually just heat the first two bags to the lowest temperature at which I get some decent vapor. This is around 5.5 (363°F), but it varies a little strain by strain, depending on dankness. Then I'll heat the 3rd one to around 8 (418°F) just to get some of the medicinal effect too. 3 times on a bag is enough for me. Save the spent vape and use it in edibles.

The price is pretty high, especially in this shit economy, but honestly you save a lot of bud. I use mine 300 days a year and it's all I can do to go through 2.5 to 3 oz. in a year, which is about 2/3 of what I'd use if I were smoking instead of vaping.

ETA: The volcano's temperature gauge is fairly accurate as well. +- a couple of degrees. Some of those cheap vapes may show a range of temperatures between 200°F & 450°F, but in reality they only have a couple of settings, too low or too high.

I say you should definently go with the volcano and you will not regret it one bit :), you will save a lot of weed and then one day every month, I like to get all my vaped weed and make some nice edibles, sit on my balcony, put on some music and munch away.
I know well of the gravitron but I have never used it, simply seen it. Looks like it packs quite the punch though. LOL.
Right now Im stuck on their Staxalot series, and wow do I love it. I've had most of their pieces in the series but nothing like the Helix top. I have tried 10 or so bongs...and nothing like it. (The same one Im trying to take a break from)

P.S. I dropped my solid valve this morning from about 4ft. onto hard flooring....not a scratch, try that with glass :)

Agreed, go with solid.
It's a nice vape if you're going for luxury. I love mine to death.
Check out this review, this guy has some pretty good info on the volcano.

appreciate such detailed posts. this thread actually turned out quite a bit better than i had expected. i've made my decision and i believe i will be going with the volcano. i want something that i can't break easily, something that will last for years, and something that will conserve bud. not to mention i can choose which compounds of the herb i want to inhale simply by setting the temperatures at different settings. thanks to c2g i will for sure be going with the solid valve.

now the next step is to find one on either ebay or craigslist for a decent price. honestly thought if i can't i'm going to just bite the bullet and order one off their official site.

wheeeewww! this thread will prob die soon but you better believe i'll revive it with a picture of that vape once it's in my possession! haha peace to you all:leaf:

ok...i got the volcano...and can't really say i am blown away. i mean yeah the taste is amazing and it's a cool piece, but were my expectations too high or does this thing just not get you that high?? we were all passing bags around for a while the past couple days and i never really felt like i got the full effect the volcano can produce..

i decided to test it out myself last night. i literally weighed out a gram of bud. grinded it up well and put it in the chamber. i made a nice 2 foot bag that works well. set the temperature to 7, waited 5 minutes, put the bowl on the volcano and waited another minute. then i turned on the air, waited for it to start blowing vapor, and snapped the bag on there. it filled with vapor and i inhaled bag after bag to the dome. yes, i got high, but if i had smoked that gram out of a bong i would of been fucked up. i've only been smoking less than a week since a 2 and a half month break.

what am i doing wrong?

The volcano is worth it, if you like vaping.

I have barely used my volcano in the 2 years I've had it. Its just a different high to a smoke, and I prefer the latter so left the volcano in its box and stuck with joints. I also find that it doesn't get me as high. I might technically be as high, but not in the way I like. I've given up booze, and digs are next, so I'll be forced to get used to it before too long though (can't stand bongs and pipes, waste of my time and weed)

I have also found vapes to be ineffective for me.. tried a few whip kinds.. and really interested in the vape pens now.. but I really dislike the pull from a vape.. are the pulls from the pens any better? seems like they might be?

Never liked mine so I sold it. Taste was nice, that's it.

Loading / cleaning SUCKS

Never got high enough to stop, always finished with bong hits.

Tried other vapes with same results.

Only one that worked (still a pain) was the glass bowl for a bong (sans water) that fits a heat gun. Worked but a real conundrum.

yep see that is where my disappointment lies. we are in the exact same boat. i had heard such good things about how this thing conserves tree...but how one could think that i just do not know. i definitely do NOT have a tolerance issue, and just like you i find myself needing to finish the job with a few bong rips. i swear i could smoke 3x as much outta the vape without getting as satisfied as i would with a bong..
