virgin farmer, few questions

Been reading these boards here for a few days, very informative! Keep up the good work!

Anyways, plan to try a small stealth grow in a speaker cab. It measures 13x13x31. Plan to grow in soil with 4-6 CFLs.

I've been looking for a strain small enough to do OK in such a confined space. Anybody have experience with this g-13 haze?

http://www.cannabis-seeds-bank.co.uk/barneys-farm-g13-haze-feminized-2621-p.asp

Seems to be a short plant compared to most.. If it looks like its outgrowing my box, i would plan on topping it. Think she'll mind? (not sure if topping is only appropriate for certain strains)

I'll post a pic of the box if i can find the camera.. It should look very sneaky! (i have room mates)

Welcome to RIU Steve! :)

That plant appears to be sativa dominant which could result in some issues if your speaker box isn't tall enough. You can definitely top a plant, not sure how many times youll be able to top that strain though. You should look into bending/lst which will definitely help reduce the size of the developed plant...

Mind if I ask why you're growing in a speaker box?

Well speaker boxes are good but very confined as you said. another good stealth grow is the rubbermaid grow. lemme find the link and ill post if you already dont know about it.

speaker cab for stealth purposes. its pretty decent size.. its a cab for 2 12'' subs (car stereo)

i have a lot of random stereo equipment, so i wont raise any eyebrows with this thing sitting in my closet

i have seen the rubbermaid thread. great idea but thats just a BIT large for my space.

is the 13x13x31 space not workable? been reading about folks working stuff up in PC towers that are much smaller...!

the description of that strain i posted say average height is 70-80cm (70cm = 27'')

if i kept the height down with some training/topping etc was hoping it would be ok!

edit: any particular strain to suggest? would probably go through attitude

Hi,

You can basically train any plant down to the size you want BUT as said above thats pretty tight for a sativa dominant strain. However, having said that you could just manage it with 31" of height, its about the same height I'm working with at the moment although my strains are Indica dominant. I work a lot with LST so you may care to take a look at my pictures (link below). if you plan to top it then its best done 10 to 14 days before flowering although like most things with growing the herb theres few hard and fast rules. Maybe better to just work with it as it flowers and keep on pulling the stems down to where you want them as I do.

Hope this gives you some ideas, I'd like to see pics if you get it going, 'stealth speaker' sounds good! :-)

thanks for the feedback :)

see you're using ak-47, phoenix.. that strain looks promising but i cant seem to find any feminized seeds ak-47 online

I reckon you could do a single plant in that space with training. Also with CFL's its important that you get as many budsights as possible as close to the lights as you can because they really do lack penetation compared with HPS. So long as you get the buds up there and within a few inches of the bulbs you can get very good results.

If you pull the main growing tip down to the level of the next highest shoots you will see those shoots begin to thicken up and become the new tops. At the same time the main stem will also turn back up so that then gives you 3 pretty even stems which will grow about the same rate. As they develop you then pull those 3 stems back down which in turn encourages the next lowest set to take over etc. This is far easier to do than to describe! Eventually you will get 7 to 9 shoots which will bud fairly evenly and at around the same distance from the bulbs as you move into flowering. You can continue this training right into flowering with no problem, but I tend to stop around the 4 week mark and just let them bud up and finish.

Hope this helps in some way. You could try something like White Widow maybe, very robust strain, takes a bit of stress and produces killer bud, still one of the best after all these years in my humble opinion. I know that Dutch Passion still do WW fems and they are excellent in my experience. I grew a pack about 9 years ago and WW remains one of my favourite strains today.

If you need any more help just ask :-)

Good to hear somebody thinks i can grow in that space.. asked a few friends and they adamantly said 'no way'

even got one to say and i quote 'i'll give you 500$ if you can grow something smoke-able out of that'

he said it in front of a few other friends.. i hope to see that cash in a few months!

picked up another speaker cab at the junk store, its a big larger, i think what i'm working with now is basically bare minimum height and i would like a little breathing room! need my own damned house and i could have a very nice setup but c'est la vie.

almost forgot.. found this thing http://www.aerogardenstore.com/prom...Name=product_aerogardens&viewProduct=3100-0GW

looks like it would just barely fit in my enclosure.. in theory this thing kicks the crap out of a soil grow. ideas on just throwing the base unit in my cabinet and then adding a half dozen more lights? this aeroponic stuff looks pretty snazzy.

SS,

Would be great to take up that bet! You could most certainly get good smokable bud in that small space, but maybe just not much of it. Personally I'd stick with soil at least until you get a good feel for these plants and thier needs. Put it this way, a good reliable strain with CFL's and ventilation in a space such as you have could give you a very sm0kable half OZ dry bud. Bigger space, HPS lamp etc would probably double that, and if you go hydro and get it right you could possibly double that again. Depends on the individuals needs and skills. Again there are many factors such as plant health etc which will influence that final yield. Veg period is also a major factor, couple of weeks veg time at least if you want that half OZ.

This is just general of course, I have a friend who has grown for over 10 years and can pull a solid dry OZ from CFL's grows with 4 weeks veg, then again another friend only growing for 3 years recently pulled a staggering 12 dry OZ from just TWO Exodus cheeseplants grown in coco and passive watered daily. In mid flowering he was putting 3 litres of water through each pot DAILY! In both cases the lighting was a 400 watt digital ballast HPS. Just goes to show!
