Ok, well couple years ago i seriously got addicted to various video games. Let me list a few- World of warcraft, lord of the rings online, elder scrolls oblivion, fable 2, that is just a couple. But i seriously got addicted to them, id wake up at 10 pm and go to sleep at 11 am the next day, All i would do it play the games and eat. I am a fan of the role playing type games, so id play and my mind would get sucked into the game. Just like a drug addict runs out of drugs, when the game server would go down, id fell "un-normal".

Felt like life was destroyed, but when the server came up id be so happy. So now i have gotten past that addiction, but if i start playing any game ill get sucked back into it again. And i dont want a life of playing a game all day and not making any progress in life. But whenever i get board i fell the need to go down to the local dealer that rips everyone off, gamestop. I love these games so much, i fell tempted to go buy a xbox 360 so i can play fallout 3... So i ask you guys, is there any possible thing i could do that would help me limit my time playing? Even if i just stop and turn it off i will fell the need to turn it back on!

thats a shitty situation, thats all i can say..make yourself some sort of schedule, like play 3 hours, then go out for 4 hours and something like that.

Sounds like you need to stay away from MMO's and just play games that have have actual endings
Your absolutely right, every single game i have doesn't have a ending, except fallout 3 witch when it ended i litterly was depressed as hell. You ever play the elder scroll series? I cant put the damn controller down. I get depressed when any game does end, even world of warcraft once i have gotten the final level. And growspace, mabey i should get a timer, like the ones used to grow weed....

Doobie, I feel for you brotha. It looks to me like you need some new challenges in your life to occupy your mind. This mental disease that you had was going to affect your health in the long run. I suggest finding a new hobby that will challenge you mentally and also physically, because it will push you to be depressed as well. So push out the thoughts of picking up the keyboard or controller and think of something you always wanted to do but never got a chance to. Maybe even consider writing a book about this issue. The addiction is more common than you think. All you have to do is figure out what needs to be done to brake this vicious cycle and then you're able to help others with this problem. This is a chance at a new beginning, so with that being said: Free Your Self! 1

Ive got a girl, one of my hobby's is playing guitar. I just wanna play em when i get board, play for a hour or so. But i cant just play for a hour. Maybe if i play a little less each day till i get to the hour then ill be good. Cause no matter what anyone says, video games are fun as hell. And i dont wanna stop playing them period. I think they make you more creative. But when a person gets to the point of playing all day and losing there job, that is to far.

whats wrong with fighting games, like street fighter or something, thers a lot of good fighting games out ther. I don't understand why most ppl even bother with MMOs or FPS? not that I don't enjoy those types of games, but yea like you pointed out they're very time consuming like ppl depend on you to go on raids or provide cover fire or whatever.

with fighters its all skill based, matches only last for 5mins at the most. the skill is in the hands of the player not your armor or your team mates. you can walk away at any time. as matter a fact most people I know who play them are are all pretty successful. well adjusted people outside of gaming, except for myself, i'm a loser heheh.

Well, people that play any type of rpg want to "role play". Role playing is where you imagine you are the character in the game. Some people that play rpgs dont have the happiest life, so when they start that game up they are then inside that world where you are a great magician, or a space marine wondering the wasteland. And the creators make a reward system in the game to get you addicted so that you play hours upon hours, then once the game ends or you complete all the quests, you buy the sequel. Same thing that tobacco companies do.

A A Meetings. Life has to center around others and a Spiritual Way of life.
Only a higher power can brake addiction. If you had self control you wouldn't be in trouble.

i feel your pain. i have never played wow but i have heard it has ruined marriages and relationships. i used to play online poker for hours a day but i get real involved with something new and its all i do for like a year and then i get bored and move to something else. find different things outside to help get you some fresh air and exercise. its nice to just be out in nature and let your mind relax sometimes.

Spend time helping others. Ask Higher Power for help. You have no self control in that area. You wouldn't need help if u did.

valid point! I just thought what I said needed to be said though, I know how some people will just resort to bashing ALL video games, because they're clueless.

I know how addictive RPGs can be, I used play Diablo 2, never again lol

Yeah dude games like Warcraft are designed to keep you hooked.

Pick up some games like Grand Theft Auto: 4 and Red Dead Redemption.

Red Dead isn't for PC (yet?) but they are cool ass games that you don't want to play for long periods of time. They have endings and good stories too.

But yeah dude I would stay away from those other games if you are serious about curbing the 'addiction'
