Vertical grow question

I have an 8 x 8 room, and want to use 3/4 of it to grow, and 1/4 for access. What would be the optimal design and wattage bulbs to use? I'm thinking 2 600w bulbs max so my elec. bill isn't too high. any ideas? thanks

I come to this thread often and I always assume that vertical grow means hanging the light vertically between your plants. I get the impression that it is more of a stadium vertical grow sub. I do what I call a vertical grow where I have 16 600 watt lights, 4 lights around each of my 9 flowering plants. In an 8x8 room I assume that you want a lot of small plants all flowering at the same time. I would put a Heath Robinson Flooded tube vertical in the corner and use both lights, one over the other. If you wanted to save on electricity you could do one or 2 things. Put the lights in a cool tube (most people here dont like cool tubes because you lose like 10% or more of the light. It makes quite a difference in the cooling bill though. The next thing you could do is place one light over the other and switch which light is on, only having one light on at one time. I would say like 6 hours for the bottom one the switch to the top for 6 hours. If you choose that then I think you could probably bump it up to 2 1000 watt lights.

Just saying, if you bump the wattage up it's going to cost more obv no matter if one is on or both are on

For an 8x8 room and growing vert I would do two stacked 600's with 4-6 plants around in the center. Make a screen to go all the way around and do a vert scrog. Would be awesome lol and you could throw a 2 bulb 60" cooltube in there to help bring down temps

thanks for all the advice. Sounds like a plan Purpsdro, I'll give that a shot. Would you make that a 4' center or 3'? so just scrog them towards the center as they grow up?

Listen to this guy....This is how to do it. Simple and with great results. Throw in a bit of F&D and it pretty much runs itself. Ya don't even need to scrog, it looks after itself, the hardest bit is stopping ya plants swallowing your lights. Shop around for good quality welded wire fencing on a roll (not box link stuff), it will save your a shit load of time and money building a frame etc.... just unroll as much as you need then tie ends with twisted wire. Will stand alone and do what it says on the tin. I veg until about 12" tall then flower em under a 600hps at distance, 4ft + and stretch the fuck out of em for week 1 of flower, then into vertical rig. I find much better general light penetration when they had a good stretch. Finishing height is about 4-5ft. I love watching worthless lower popcorns coming out as big fat tastey buds. You can grow monsters (if ya swing that way) with this method and tie you plants into the screen to hold the weight.

Main drawback....... what a fucking polava at chop time.
