I didn't shoot bad. I took the table on two occasions. There's only one pool table so winner stays. Except when some douche decides him and his friend are gonna play again. Ron the question is which one would you prefer? Hah

Well it took a couple days to get the internet remedied, but I'm bakkkk nowwww. So I did notice I let them go a little long without a feeding (spotting). At least it was only one leaf. I've realized how much it's gonna take to get all these plants feed. I had to increase the size of my recipe. hah. Well without further ado.

These first two are from 3 days ago when I first flipped the HPS on. I moved two from the first picture back under the T5.

The little one at the top and the bottom middle got put under the T5...

I'm running out of places huh? Well it's forced me to clean that closet out so MJ is constructive. hahah.

Picture of the tent once the others were moved out:

Now on to today's pics.....

Qrazy Quake:

Qrazy Quake (the spotting I was talking about on the back stretching leaf):

Sour Cherry:

Sour Cherry (I topped this one as well):

So I'm learning a few things here and there. Especially how hard it is judging their water intake at this stage. I'm glad I now have a large bin to use so I don't run out of food. I have to let the water sit due the chlorine. Now I won't fall behind mixing batches of feed.

Nice bro. I didn't say before, but it's really cool your parents are alright with your 'hobby'. I'm really stoked my parents are cool with it. Would suck if they were all worried about it and gave you static. My mom gives me that for smoking, but she's cool with me growing. Anyways... peace.

Thanks bruh. I'm having a ball learning along the way, but I think soil may be in the not too distant future. I like the idea of all organic but I wanted to make sure I could get the basics down first. I mean my dad wasn't thrilled but he also likes growing vegetables and whatnot so he could relate. My mom busted my chops saying something along the lines of "That looks so damn complicated, in my day we just threw it on the porch or in a window." I laughed a little inside. They also both agreed to smoke with me after they retire (3 more years). Their jobs drug screen.

I like the look of the sour cherry.

Subscribed, howdy :).
Glad to have you TLD. All the Sour Cherrys I have look pretty good too. Coincidence? maybe just good genetics.

I will say I beginning to see why I like this community on RIU. A lot of good people. If anyone has some pointers, I'll gladly take them into consideration as well. I know I'm still learning. I love coming home to watch my plants. Now if only finding a not so crazy chic were this much fun. hahahah.

I saw you were playing pool? I love playing pool. Definitely not that good at it, but its a lot of fun. I could do it for hours and hours which is probably why I havent gotten a table ever.

pointers.... depends on your goals, and how anal (perfectionist) you are. Its all up to you. Tons of info out there.... just depends on what your going for and what you have going on ;)

Yea that was Friday or Saturday that I was shooting pool. I'm not a shark by any means but I do love playing hours on end. I haven't bought a table mostly due the fact that I don't want to have to tip the back of the stick up just to shoot because I don't have room.

I want to keep my goals reasonable this time around. As far as yield is concerned I was thinking 2 zips per plant. If half turn out to be female (5) well you can do the math. hah. I tend to be a perfectionist to some degree but also realize some things cannot be ideal. Like my situation starting out. In order to have at least one of each strain, I planted 3 beans of each. So nine, of those I figured half would be males. The remaining, I might kill a couple by accident. I didn't exactly plan on having all 9 going through to flower (knock on wood). I haven't been reading as much lately except when I see info posted in threads I'm subscribed to. I feel like my grow is so basic it doesn't take much to keep things going. Now before I dive into soil. I will probably spend 6 months researching and reading. Long ass answer right? hahah. Basically if you have any suggestions just shoot. I'm willing to try anything. I'm main-lining a couple of the plants just to practice/learn (I'm a kinesthetic learner).

Its been a few years since I turned away from coco. though I did get good results.... it was a lot more difficult to manage (bit more time consuming and expensive as well). quality and quantity the few times I did it was not what I was hoping for considering everything I put out for it.

Im a soil grower. aside from that I would probably do DWC/bubbleponics. Those are my PREFERENCES (Caps doesnt mean Im yelling at all, just stressing use of the specific words). What works for you is what is most important.

Your goal is within reach, and a conservative approach is always more rewarding.

Looking at your plants Im really hoping you havent started flower yet. Just read the first couple of posts. Your right where you should be. 3 more weeks veg (because they are from seed) and guessing on 3-5 females and you should easily reach your goal. That said, keep your wattage low and your light closer for tighter node growth during veg. you should reach 600W a week and a half prior to flower so they are adjusted to the light density and can make optimum use of it. Having more of the blue spectrum will keep the plants from stretching too far at the onset of flower, as well as SCROGing or supercropping (I would recommend SCROG for your case, as supercropping takes more time and uses more blue spectrum of light for the health of the plant).... also you can SCROG as you go.

Soil is a lot more... forgiving.... if you use a good soil. Soil producers have good batches and not as good batches though so that is something to look for as well.

In terms of plant biology, when growing in coco it requires more knowlege and its easier to NOT have everything the plant needs. I havent ever used the nutrients your running so I cant really comment on that other than they are fairly popular, but not what vets use.

Your looking good. Less stress is the best- for you. dont overthink it, and enjoy yourself. Less is more, ;).

Simple proverbial phrases have served me best in terms of growers approach and perspective. I hope you gain in soul as you grow alongside your plants ;)

Thanks for the suggestions mane. I appreciate that. To answer your question(s) and pose a couple more..... I'm still in veg. The difficulty for me is being in an apartment only allows for so much in terms of medium. So my thought was to keep it basic. I have lowered the cooltube since that photo noticing the node spacing is becoming increased. So hopefully that does the trick. It can't go too much lower before it's sitting on the floor of the tent. hahah. Maybe I can prop the shelving up more instead. ahhh solution. hah. Could you expand more on that bit about in terms of plant biology and coco requiring more knowledge? What do vets use? I won't be switching this grow but maybe next one. As for the lighting I think I have a fairly good grasp on that and what you are saying confirms the things I have researched. What direction should my screens be for SCROG? Vertical or horizontal?

I'm fairly happy with the results so far, but I'm sure as I learn more I will want to push and try different techniques, soil, anything really. Like we both have said simple is best for me right now. I dig your proverbial phrase too.

Please Read This Study-
The answer to your question and understanding plant biology is in this study. I have read very many and this is probably the most averaging of them (getting down to a .02 ppm range). In growing with coco coir you are starting with an uneven platform of available and stored nutrients. They also diminish rather quickly as they are readily available and mostly water soluble. The range of nutrients present is nowhere near that of a soil, particularly microbial rich soils. The liquid or crystalline nutrients you use are designed alongside the coco growing method ( so additives you put in are not accounted for), so most of the math has already been done for you, and it is designed for anyone to use that doesnt understand exactly what is happening (ima buy it, and itll just work for me ;) approach). Confounding variables in other areas of the grow (water quality and cleanliness for example) can easily effect the media, and addressing those issues could be difficult for a person that doesnt understand the product itself. In reading the study you should have more then well enough of an understanding of what you are working with to address any issues that come up. The P dwindles quite a bit slower than the K with coco typically, and addressing the deficiencies of micro-nutrients is particularly difficult when transplanting established plants into bigger pots. EC is something to watch for and is not particularly highlighted in this study, as I noticed throughout the different studies EC is the most fluctuating measurement observed. Another reason why transplanting or upcanning can be bothersome, as fresh coco EC is very different from that of coco being used because watering, feeding, and roots themselves alter it and affect it. you will be safe in the 1.2-2 range during regular use, and around 2.3-2.7 is good for CUTTINGS, but not so much seedlings (seedlings do a lot better in the "regular use" range).

premixed soils are designed to have the full spectrum of available nutrients, in an organic environment that will benefit the relationship to the roots and plant, micro-nutrients are a lot more balanced and present. There is also a good amount of slow release to the total nutrient content as well, and Stabalizers are mixed in too.... so you can just plug them in and go, have faith in a good product and this is key as well- organic soils are ALIVE, and in a lot of ways maintain themselves (adapt and adjust to your treatment of it) for the optimum balance of a thriving biological ecology.

Vets that have used coco choir for some time use their understanding of their particular strains needs to address their nutritional concerns. they use a wide variety of products and it seems on a more "as needed" basis. I never got THAT far into it so I cant say for sure. Canna products are popular though, like I said, and many vets use it alongside other products.

Start with Horizontal (Im really not the biggest fan of vertical) and see how you like it.

KISS..... and proverbial phrases make more of a difference to me than most of what I just wrote ;)

feel free to add your opinion, thoughts, suggestions etc. on my grow as well (not even started yet I already need advice) its the top link in my sig.

I will read that study later tonight when I have time. I understand that coco certainly has its drawbacks. I was aware of the most of what you wrote about the nutrients as well with respect them being fairly easy for a beginner, however, the bit about them diminishing quickly is new to me. I have been using the regular schedule for the grow so far. After I read that study it may be cause to make some adjustments though.

I can't wait til I have a firmer understanding of plant biology so that I can grow into soil instead. It's just going to take time with everything else I'm trying to educate myself on as well (reading philosophy book and studying math so I get back into engineering). I think starting with the screens being horizontal might be beneficial but I'm not sure how well it will work with the light being vertical. I'll play with it a bit to see what I come up with. I've been trying to obide by the KISS method. hahahah.

I'll check out your grow later tonight. But definitely thanks for the info and suggestions mane.

Any of you guys have thoughts on amended coco?

TLD I read that study. It was a very interesting read indeed. It gave me the idea of my above question. Of course I realize I'm not the first person to have this idea (google search). Hahah. But my thought is if like soil the amended coco provides a time release of sorts, it will give the plant a consistent supply of macro and micro nutrients. I may be screwed for this grow but it's definitely idea for the next. Maybe I can do it before xplanting before flower.

Coco is an excellent media for hydro, semi-hydro, or traditional soiless media. There are only few important things to keep in mind compared to other soiless medias.

1. Poorly harvested coco media can have a high salt content. Excess salt is not a problem with the better brands nowadays.
2. Coco has a high CEC (Cation Exchange Capacity) and can hold onto high CEC salts like Ca and Mg.
3. Precharging or supplementing nutrient solutions with Ca and Mg can go a long ways to eliminating issues with fluctuations in K, Ca and Mg and other high CEC nutes.

Typical is to supplement Coco with Cal Mag Plus, Epsom Salts, Calcium Nitrate, Kalkawasser etc.

Primary benefits of coco its moisture holding properties (far superior to peat moss, better drainage, more oxygen, less hyrdophobic when dry), its ability to hold and slowly release nutes, and favorable natural ph (weakly acidic)

If you want to ammend.... you might as well be growing in soil. the nutrients you have are tailored to your coco (Assuming your using Canna coco), and are designed to work alongside the issues of the coco.

While yes it can hold many nutrients well.... N and P it does not hold well.

KISS, keep it simple and LESS IS MORE. Dont fix something that isnt broken, your plants are happy. If you start having issues, address them then. IMHO. You could do vertical but you are flowering in a tent right? Just more difficult to manage IMHO. Its all up to you. If you want to, then go for it.

I havent even gotten them to germ yet for my current.

I did a verg scrog sometime later in this thread https://www.rollitup.org/grow-journals/227660-theloadeddragons-perpetually-growing-perpetual-grow.html I dont think it got to harvest before the thread was closed, but you can see.

Yea I know I'm just already excited for a soil grow which I haven't researched enough on. hahah. I feel like the kid with ADD, oOoOoOo shiny.

Nah but they do look much better today that I got some water on them. I'm realizing how much faster they need water now that they are growing larger and I think it may have a lot to do with the HPS heating things up as well (in more ways than one). I'm in a tent correct. That's why I was thinking of main-lining to help keep height under control. I feel like a horizontal screen may not be the most efficient use of the light. idk. My original idea was for something like a vertical parabolic screen with an opening on one side to manage the screens. The screens would be on the inner side of the pots closest to the light. This I think would allow me to water them easily(ish) as well. Then again this it just the mappings in my head. I haven't tested any design to fit inside currently. I don't really want to put screens on before flower either because I'm going to have to pull males. This is why I should have started smaller and added a strain at a time. Lesson learned.

Haha... look a squirrel .. I know the feeling with the growing ADD... always want to look at something new, some other thing. My best advice with this game is to concentrate on getting what you have going on dialed in. It will train you in 'dialing in', know what I mean. So that when you do the 'next thing' you will be an expert at getting shit dialed in. You're young there will be time to try all the ideas you have.

Exactly! Proverbial phrases applied: Start Small Go Big. All good things in their due time. make a foundation to work from, make it strong. Less is more. Work with what you have first. Small steps go a long way. Look before you leap, and wait for the opportune moment. Change is undeniable, Choice is yours. ;) always many more too.....
