Vero29 cob charts

OK so I have some questions about driving current.

Ill post the spec sheets on the vero29 and I'm assuming the Cree CXB's might be around the same. I couldn't find any detailed data though except for light output charts for the Crees.

Looking at the charts(BXRC-40E10K0-L-2x)wouldn't it be best to go 500ma as it states it has higher lumens per watt while having the best efficiency? Thus spending less money on drivers as you can have 1 driver run 8 cobs instead of 1 driver running 4 cobs?

Or does running on lower drive current bring down the light penetration?

I want to build my own and I'm going with vero because I'm in Canada. Exchange rates suck at the moment.

My setup will be:

8'L x 4'W grow space **cut in half for bloom/mother veg space**

My light design will be pretty much the same as growmau5 except they will be vero26 and the driver I'm having trouble deciding because of what I'm explaining above about the drive current.

500mA is really low, you'd need a whole lot of COBs at that drive level. Veros don't have as much efficiency increase at low voltage as CXB, so there isn't as much benefit to running a lot of them really soft as with Cree. 1.05 or 1.4mA is probably a better choice for the Vero 29. Or 2.1mA (2100 on the chart) and use the driver dimmer.

If you can afford the extra cobs and run them low that's great but since it would be 500ma instead of 525 (half of 1050) the increase in light won't be much. Consider running them at .7 amps. I have 14 Vero 29s at .7 amps in a 2x4 and love it. Not a weak spot in the tent. But unless you're really trying to keep the electrical use down, the main thing is to achieve the intensity you're looking for.

Alright thanks! My setup will be 16 cobs of 4 strips in both of the 4x4 area.

So 32 cobs total. 8 heat sinks. I didn't want to spend 70-90/each on 8 drivers when I could spend 100/each for 4 drivers.

Also this has nothing to do with the subject but could anyone explain to me how I order from alibaba if I'm not a company? Kingbrite has the lenses that I can't find any where else. And the buying procedure is as foreign to me as the website.

Unless someone can direct me to a different source for the cob lenses.

So you're thinking about using 4 HLG-240H-C700s?

With Alibaba you would sign up and then send an inquiry to the company and work it out through pay pal or similar, but if buying from Kingbrite you can just send Jerry a message at [email protected] and no need to sign up at Alibaba.

I have heard other mention Jerry won't sell COB accessories without buying cobs, so if that ends up being an issue you can check Cutter Electronics.

Yeah I'm on mouser at the moment and that driver is 105$ so it's a good price as it's in Canadian dollars. And I'll check out cutters to see if they have the lens. Only thing I'm having trouble getting at the moment.

I was looking at the lenses on alibaba through kingbrite. And I'm not sure if the prices are right but they have the drivers listed at 1-2$ US. Kinda weird but the cobs are on par for what they should be.

I have a 2x4 as well. How do you have your 14 v29s laid out?

7 rows of 2 makes sense. I'm doing the same thing in a 2'x4' but I'm going to be using 8 Vero 29's running at 38.2w per cob with 2 drivers.
I imagine Rahz just has 3 more rows than I do.View attachment 3614943
I have virtually identical setup using the hlg185s. I'm very happy with the 3500k at 1 v29 per sq ft. I run them about 850ma. On my second grow with that fixture...and wouldn't change a thing.

So you have 8 Vero's@850ma so almost 30w per cob in a 2'x4'? That's good to know. Rahz has almost 100w more in the same area but then again he has more coverage.

I shoot for 15 PAR watts a foot, which translates to about 700 umol plus or minus across the canopy. I said I would not change anything, well if I had an unlimited build account, I would go with more cobs run softer...but I am happy with what I have. 15 PAR watts and 700 umol has been very productive.:hump:
