Vero 29 Cob Help!

Hi all,

Wondering if I could have someone help me with my vero cob randomly shutting off . I have 4 cobs and only 1 turns off after a few hours.

When I turn off the light and turn it back on, the broken cob turns on again.

Thanks for looking!

I have the OpticLighting vero 360. They took the information off the site for the model I have and it is been quite difficult to get a hold of them. Hoping I could some EXPERT ROLLITUP advice. Thanks Rahz!

I'm not familiar with the internals. I suspect someone here has one, or you can pop the top and take a look at the driver/s label.

If each cob has a driver that's my guess too... wouldn't expect that unless a fan is having problems.
I think @Zulu Smoker posted pictures recently of this company's fixtures. The drivers were taped together with what looks to be electrical tape.
That seemed odd to me for a commercial luminaire. I am still a novice with COBs but placing two components that generate heat so close together seems counter intuitive to me.The drivers were also sandwiched between two radial heatsinks which would add to the problem. Perhaps leading to premature failures. This of course is just my thoughts and they are based on very little practical experience.

I would be interested in seeing a photo of the internal layout of the fixture.

Cheers,
Will

Hi,

Thanks for all the responses guys! Sorry for the lateness but I've finally got the pictures of the internals. It would seem less troublesome to solve the problem without sending the light back. I think @cityworker415 also had a problem with his vero going out and warranty-ing with Optic.... Anyways thanks again for all the help!

I see only 2 LPF drivers instead of 4.

Like rahz asked ..All fans working ? Like pos said..The driver to the faulty cob is more hot than others?
If you are good with electricals.
I would swap connection with adjacent cob. If problem persists on same cob then cob issue. If the other cobs starts acting faulty then its driver.

There are 4 drivers. You can only see it in the second picture. Sorry for the bad photography skills. I will attempt to swap the cobs. Thanks robincnn!

***Change of plans, will wait til Optic responds incase tampering voids warranty.

Ah I see there are 4. I would take the drivers apart(unstack them) as one sitting on top of another may be causing the internal heat issues. My guess would be its one of the bottom drivers that is shutting down as the heat from itself can't really go anywhere as its got the bottom of the box on the bottom and another driver on top. But then adding the heat the second driver is pusing into it and you're lucky only 1 of the 2 bottom driver has failed.

Oh wow, I was kinda cocking my head on that one but you're right. So we've got a pretty good idea of the problem, but I think Matt is being smart to wait on a response from Optic. If separating them doesn't fix the issue then a replacement would be in order.

Optic has responded to my email. They have offered to send me a vero chip to replace. They don't seem to want to send me a replacement unit and insist that it is the COB chips problem. What do you guys recommend?

It has quality components, but I agree that the close spacing/stacking of drivers might be an issue.
I might have designed that light with a single driver since space is at a premium
