okay so my first grow attempt failed misserably, because i didnt have any perlite/vermiculite and i burnt the shit out of them having a 400 watt light way to close lol
so now i am starting over, i have MG Organic soil, and i went to get perlite, checked lowes and ace hardware, both only had MG perlite(which contains nutes) so i had to get vermiculite.....does that work just as good??? and also how much do i put like 50% vermiculate/50% soil? or what???
i am going to be planting them in dixxie cups for now, what should i do?
and also should i use my 4 ft T12 flours. or use my 400 watt hps???
what do you think will be better idea....with the 400 hps temp stays high 80s

Vermiculite and perlite are not the same, in fact they are almost opposite in effect. Perlite does not hold water well, but does hold lots of pockets for air and hence oxygen, roots LOVE oxygen. Vermiculite is a clay based mineral that is rapidly heated and expanded, it holds WATER.

So by using only soil and vermiculite you will be creating the perfect environment to have root rot and ultimately the plants will die again.

You CAN use the MG perlite, just make sure to wash it and let it soak overnight and then wash again. Any of the ozmocote balls must be removed. After the perlite is cleaned use 25% of it per volume of soil and 10% vermiculite.

Use the HPS to veg and flower, just make sure temps are kept in check, nothing over 85F. If you are getting into the high 80's then you might be better off using the fluoros for now until you can figure out a ventilation system that will cool things down.

Happy Growing!!

If you want to have a succesful grow stay away from mg soil. I use equal parts mushroom compost, peat moss and perlite (both not mg). I add 1 tablespoon of dolomite lime per gallon of mix.

yeah, what Drama said!

I don't use vermiculite at all in soil. Soil dose a great job of holding water on its own. I overdose on perlite. I like my soil *very* airy. Roots seem to love air.

I have yet to have any issues with MG products. Just gotta know how to use them/read your plant.

fuk so these 2 bags i just bought are a waste and the mg perlite will work...ugh lol

so should i go get the perlite

you should just go get it, you'll feel better too. The MG organic soil will work just fine, You didn't waste it all. Just wash out the perlite first, its messy and floats so do it in a large basin.

k, well do u think the vermiculite will work til i transplant them from the dixxie cups?
i should only have them in dixxie cup for like a week or 2 right
