Venting a Grow Cab

Hey all,
This is my first post. Great info here.
I have a 3'x 5'x 2' cabinet I'm in the process of building and I'm wanting to ventilate it through a shared clothes dryer vent. Can I use a Y-adapter and hook my exhaust from the cab and the electric clothes dryer together?
I'm assuming I'll need to have a back draft unit on each line so they won't interfere with each other.
I'm planning on using a Sunleaves Wind Tunnel 6 inline fan with a Can 33 carbon filter.
Thanks for any help you all can provide.

Greetings M8,

Sounds like you will have all the fan you will need for that space and a large 6" carbon filter. The use of backdraft damper is a must ( a good sealing one ) don't want that dryer air near the grow space if it can be prevented. I also assume the fan, filter and all the ducting will be outside the grow space, as it will get cramped in there quickly without a little fore thought into the final layout. A couple of pics would help as well. Good Luck M8.

Peace

Asmallvoice,
Thanks for the response.
Here is a layout of my cab,

I'm planning on using a 250 watt HPS bulb with an ebb and flow system. I also be ventilating a smaller vegging cab.
My intake air will be coming from the outside and I will try exhausting to the room at first.
I'm open to any suggestions.
Thanks again.

Looks laid out right, but the ducting will be the only limitation, those look like some really tight bends for 6" ducting, not saying it can't be done, there are way too many pics on this site to prove otherwise..lol
My Mother/Clone Room is a mere 23" x 40" x 42" and I am using 120mm 120vac cabinet fans that are cheap ($15) quiet, efficient ( Orion Fans ) and 50,000 hour life they move the air in there so well, I can use 4" duct and do a whole 360 degree bend, which is how I accomplish my light barriers since all my rooms ( Mom/Clone, Veg and Flower) are in a 8' x 4' x 7'6" room. If you are going with a 250w HPS, you could easily downsize to these type of fans to vent the light, and save a good bit on the noise and power consumption factors. Here is a shot of mine, I have 2 of them, and they are awesome.

You see the fan in the lower left of the Veg room and the shot on the inside shows the 4" duct in the corner, I could hang a 250 in here and keep it cool, as the air turn over rate is plenty fast for this area. This room is 28" x 42" x 23" deep. As far as the Carbon Filter, you would have alot more room to play with that, cause you need to stay close to what the filter is askin for to function properly. Hope this helps M8.

Peace

Excellent info Asmallvoice,
Just what I needed. Those fans you suggested must be very efficient and for a great price too!
The light reflector I was planning on using is the Hydrofarms Daystar, it has a footprint of 12" x 22". I'll get some 6" tubing to test with on fitting it all in that space.
Thanks again,

I'm not sure the dryer vent will work with a Y splitter. The 6" at 400 cfm will create far more pressure than the dryer. What happens if you turn a water hose on and poke a hole in it? The water still goes out of the hose but you will get a face full of water as well. I believe it will cause problems for your dryer. Even with a damper, the pressure would need to equalize for the dryer to even open the damper. It would work if you turn the fan off when the dryer is running, but that sounds like a headache to me. Perhaps a booster fan added in the dryer exhaust would fix the problem.

Yeah Michaelangelo00,
I've given up on that idea. I'm thinking about venting out an existing cat door (which I'll plant some shrubs around to conceal) or I have a tool shed sitting next to the wall I'm placing the cabinet against that I can run the exhaust into.
I added a stand that I'm going to sit the cabinet on and have the reservoir sitting in so I can gain some more room for growth.

Thanks for the input, much appreciated.
