Ventilation help please! SunHut XL with Vortex

Hey thanks for checking out my thread.

I am wondering if I should go out and buy a 6" 450cfm Vortex or if the 4" 175cfm will suffice. The grow tent if 4.5 x 4.5 x 7 and there is a 600w in there. Temps are around 90F or so.

Forgot to add that I'm hoping to run a carbon filter and have a cool tube with this fan.

Thanks

I have the same tent, I say go with the 6" to handle the heat from that size lamp, also it will make connection simple since it already has 6" outlets and flanges with the tent.

I've got the Homebox XL with a 600w aircooled HPS. I have a 300cfm 6" fan pulling through the filter and aircooled light. This arrangement keeps my temps about 7F higher than ambient room temp.

My tent doesn't have separate flanges for cooling the light, so I will be adding 2 more flanges to my setup for the next grow.

I've got pics of my current setup in my grow journal if you are interested.

Good luck with your grow!

Alright thanks for the advice, I'm getting the 6" today.

Just to make sure the order it goes in is Filter > Ducting > Fan > Ducting > Cooltube > Ducting > Tent Flange

Is this correct?

That's how mine is set up. I get good airflow, and the exhaust does not smell like weed at all. Minimize any bends in the ducting if possible.

Good luck with your grow!

Thanks for helping man.

What would be a good intake fan with that fan?

I bought a 170cfm cheapo at my hydro store. I pull air in through the lower left flange and blow it at my light and tops of the plants. It's not strong enough to push out air when the 300cfm is on. That way you still have negative tent pressure for odor control, and the main fan won't have to work so hard. I just took a picture of the setup for my grow journal if you are interested in seeing it.

Good luck man.

Okay so I have the filter, fan, and ducting and need to set it up today. What is the best way to connect the vortex and a filter securely? Should I just put some ducting in between the filter and the vortex?

Last question, how should I go about hanging the filter in my tent? Just use the straps provided?

Thanks so much!

Here's a couple of pics of my set up. It is definitely NOT the way I will have it set up for my next grow. Way too many bends, but by the time I figured out it was wrong, the plants had grown to big for me to risk moving shit around...

Filter - fan - light. This set up was pretty smooth when the lights were lower, but is not good when the lights are at the top. The filter and fan are suspended from the ceiling with the straps set so they push against each other, add some 100 mph tape and you're set. All the other connections use the worm drive clamps. I will add two flanges to the tent for the next grow so my light circuit will go: Intake - Fan - Light - exhaust. The air cooling the light will never enter the tent...

Exiting the light and out the upper exhaust flange:

Thanks for the pics man. Awesome grow!

My tent went from being in the 90s to being around 79-82. I'm very pleased with this setup now. I'll post pics soon.

Excellent! Remember you can always buy a little Speedster to take your big fan down just a tad if you find you don't need all those CFMs - really drops the noise level.

Excellent temperature drop! I'd like to see how you set up your tent.

Good luck man. :blsmoke:

Yeah man, sorry i forgot the pics, tomorrow for sure. I'm thinking of connecting the intake duct to outside somehow cause my tent stays the same temp as the room it's in. Might just open the window instead, if i can bust that bitch open.

Thanks for the help:mrgreen:
