Best suggested time to veg before flowering. I usually wait 8 weeks from seed, any suggestions or comments?

The day i start Flowering ,In the hps room is the day that i start seeds for the grow after the ones in flower,So i have a crop every 8 week,I normally run 8/9 week strains ,All the vegging is done with t5 ,I get them to around 18 inch tall,That is my flowering height,So the main lights are only ever used to flower.I'm in the Process of Building a New veg room,I wanting one a bit bigger than the one i have now,The 8 week veg time involves Multiple toppings,Not just the Main top, every single Branch gets topped,This gives me Rounded bushes Rather than Christmas tree shape.I have also noticed that if you take a Clone the same day has you start a seed,Then they end up pretty much growing round about the same height .I have done this many times,I leave my Clones for two week ,to root ,They don't come out of the Propagator till they are through the Bigger cubes,By this time the seedling is starting to build its roots in the coco .

No not really ,I get a nice amount from mine .Are you topping if you are only topping the main top start doing every single branch,it makes a massive difference,Then the minute you can do it again then do so before flowering,Then just has they are about to go into flower, just top the main tops this will give the sides time to catch the main top up.You only get really good buds on the top or the ends of the sides ,so top them gives you loads of flower sites. This is one of the tops,on the G13 Blueberry Headband.2011-01-02 22.09.43.jpg

I do top every branch, on every 2 sections of leaves, but was told not to top for 1 or 2 weeks before flowering.

What light are you using? If you are starting with mature clones - the penetration of your light will determine how tall your plants will be in the end. If you are starting with seeds, you want to wait until your plants are preflowering and alternating nodes before flowering. This shows they are mature. Ultimately most lights only penetrate a foot deep into the canopy or even less than that so you can still get a huge bud from a mature but short small plant. 18" seems fine as long as it's mature because your light won't penetrate the full 18" anyway. This applies for indoor basically. If you are outdoor... you can use the sun.. which can penetrate much much deeper so you can veg out trees and then flower and get great yields that way.

I have all ways Grown my plants to 18 inch ,i have tested many heights but i noticed i was getting round about the same weight of Good Quality Buds,But the bigger i did them the More fluffy bud i got .I don't mind the odd bit because i use a lot of Oil,and smoke a lot of Hash. But its good heavy buds i like,I have no problem with the smaller buds that most people hate ,because there a pain to prune,I just chuck them in a bucket with the sugar leaf on and they go to.If we had Sun in Summer i would love Nothing ore than to grow a Monster Outdoors .

Tons of led's, I have noticed that no matter the height indoors, the bottom does not get penetrated well. I start with seeds, they seem to grow much hardier and stronger than my clones.

With my LED Grow i only go for the main tops and scrog ,The main weight for me comes from hps lights ,

The lower budsite or popcorn is not caused by lack of light.
It's has to do with the distribution of auxins and apical dominance.

It is really hard to answer a veg question. Fill the space you want to flower and flip. Keep them to a height where if they go 2 1/2 times as big they wont bleach from the lights touching them with really bright lights. Veg is whatever it takes to make that space fill.

2 plants make a bigger veg

4 plants are half the veg (canopy fills up twice as fast).

This is for the lights I have used (mcob/CMH)

Here in SoCal I find it's the size of the pot that determines the size of the plant as the first determinate. I'm more concerned with the timing of pruning as it weakens the plant I avoid pruning near the veg/flower shift, trying to get most of it done by solstice and almost none after setting flowers.

I been going with 24 inches, do you think I would lose much yield if I went with 18?
You only really get good buds on the top half of that plant ,I do 2 like I have said before and all ways hit 2 lb from the two plants under each light.plant per light

I never start the training with the scrog until I start to flower ,My two plants fill the table every time,Normally stop the training end week 3 of flower .This still gives me nice tops like the one above ,Good Luck. But try to multi top during veg has much has possible, this with growing in the scrog method is the way I found to get best weights .
