Vacuum purge, will this work???

Hello all,

I have been playing around with BHO now for about 6 months. As of now, my proccess is just running butane through the tube into a pyrex dish sitting in a semi boiling pan of water. I let the butane evaporate and while doing so i whip it. I then spread it as thin as possible in the pyrex and allow it to sit overnight. I then scrape and place in no goo containers. I place the containers in a cool (40° +/-) place for about a week.

At this point it is like taffy. I then test my BHO out, after doing so (and i have no explenation for or know why it works) but i then take (still hot from use) dabber and stick it into the taffy ball for just a second or 2. I wait a few hours, then mix the BHO up again as well as I can and then close up the no goo containers and leave it alone for a few days.

When i come back to it after a few days, it is like wax! It is crumbly, yet will hold shape, not very sticky any more, etc...

Anyways, I am looking to update/improve my proccess. I own a concrete air meter andwas wondering if it would work as a vacuum prurger? And what I might have to do to modify it? I included a link of the meter along with a diagram. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

I have no guidance on your chamber. .. but If your not going to vac you need more heat for longer. 100-120f for 24+ hr.

Whipping makes it easier to evap but also degrades your product, It may smell wonderful but will not smell/taste like that for more than a few days. (Try moving it around once in a while to break the surface not whip)

I would also recommend trying it before storing it; to ensure you have most of the tane out. When you go to hoot it it should not spark, snap, crackle or pop... If it's as quiet as a mouse and tastes good, you can begin drying it out.

I'm stumped...

I clicked your link and I'm just having a hard time grasping how that would apply to BHO.
I'm willing to bet you however do know what you are doing...

Would you mind elaborating on how you would apply this to the BHO process?

It just seems that for that price tag, you could buy a nice set of glass/SS Tubes, A nice vac and chamber and still have lots of cash leftover for Butane cases and miscellaneous equipment..
Like an expensive point and shoot laser thermometer.
^ the more expensive, the more accurate the temps are ime.

First had a Harbor Freight one, was +/- 10°-15° inaccurate..
Then I bought the cheap Ryobi (still using this one) but she is not very accurate either..
Saw one for 85$... Prolly much more accurate.

The Ryobi can be off by 10 ish° also.

I've verified temps by using the laser and comparing that with the readout from my expensive digital food thermometer (my sand bath)
Sorry to ramble, coffee and Sativa dabs do that...lol

I'm very interested on what you is planning on doing with that thing^
TIA

I already own it, been sitting in the garage for 2 years, so the money was already spent.

The chamber is roughly 1' dia x 1' tall. It is used for testing the air content in wet concrete. It tests the air by filling the cylinder, putting the top on (it is air tight) and there is a pump, once it is pumped it holds to whatever preassure that that you set it to. Isn't that the basic premise for vacuum purging bho?

Just figured since i already owned a type of vacuum chamber and pump, why spend the $$ on another similar setup? Idk, i may be wrong in my thoughts, but that is why i came here. To see if the experts and hash heads had any thoughts on this.

Thanks for the replys (BluJays & Sirdabsalot)

Really, 100-120° for 24 hours???!!! Wow, i did not know that! Thanks

I seem to be very successful in that i seem to never have any butane remaining. Maybe just luck? ALWAYS tastes so yummy, like a super enhanced flavor/taste representing the strain that it was made from! Personal fav is Bomb S33Ds Cherry Bomb (tastes like Ludens cherry cough drops!)

My success with evopration may also come from the fact that I only do between 2-4 grams at a time (end product) from roughly an OZ of trim and popcorn.

Is storing it in the cold beneficial or harmful?

It sounds like the chamber is the same basic idea. My only concern is not being able to see the "muffin" and risking getting goo all over the pot. However 1'x'1 is pretty large for 3g runs.

And for just a heat purge; for sure. Many makers low heat purge for 12-24 hours before vacuuming as well; but 1oz is a small run so with thin layers and much agitation you might have been OK with your times and temp.

Food for thought, boiling h20 is 212F, we are talking about a constant 100F.... Slow and steady wins the race. bongsmilie

Oh and cool, dark and dry place is best, so cold is fine.

Thanks, i appreciate the info. I will def look into setting something up for my heat purge for my next run. I am chopping down Plush Berry (pink pheno) within the week, should have a good amount of trim. The terp profile is so intense (cat piss and life savors candy!) I would like to make sure to get the best BHO i can out of it!

Would a ceramic hot plate and a pyrex dish work you think? I have infared temp gun (2 of them, 1 small keychain and then the gun version). Would I want to keep a lid on the pyrex, keep it open, or a vented lid?

Digital is best but you can monitor the temps with a meter too. I would use a sick pad in that case to make sure the heat is evenly distributed. (You can put parchment on top of it)

I've heard about putting lids on to keep out moisture but I am weary of pressurizing butane. You could put a pasta screen over it to keep the dust out.

Looks to me like it should work. Have you tried pulling a vacuum on it?

What BJ said about seeing what you are doing.
