vacuum pump tech: 10 micron 1.5 pascal rated vp6d 2 stage,CAN I BOIL OFF THC?

THC boils at 17C/62.6F under 100 microns vacuum, so we stay above 29.5" Hg (10,000 microns), and don't need our micron gauge. THC boils at 76C/168.8F under that partial pressure.

Got a left over bottle of N2 from our defunct Perkins Elmer GC that we continue to pay demurrage on, so I'll give it a shot to speed up dessication. We used <5 ppm water content argon in industry as a drying agent, so it should work..
There ya go, nitrogen works best, we actually use a refrigerant to break the vac, it drags it down much faster.
Whats happens is as you bring the space back to a positive it excites any noncondensables and they are easier to pull out.

I did a demonstration for my students at school.
We took a inch and 3/8 piece of copper tubing.
Put a fitting on it about a foot in on one side.
Taped mylar to one end , loaded it with a ping pong ball and and taped the other end with mylar.
Pulled a vacuum and pierced the side closest to the ping pong ball.
We actually shot a ping pong ball through a full beer can.

Very cool ^^^^^^
Someacdude my ac buddy just got me to start using nitrogen during my extractions
I'm amazed at how helpful y'all can be in the cannabis world

Absolutely, my buddy has a micron gauge and we both noticed the vacuum pull drop substantially faster than without nitrogen

If i triple evacuate i can drop the time from hours to minutes on some systems, pretty cool eh.
Just be careful bro, dont want you blowing off your nutsack

Wow I will have to mention that to him, minutes sound even better
But I will keep my nutsack out of the equation my first time and let him test it out lol

Just remember. An implosion is as dangerous as an explosion. Be safe

So I'm still having problems, I'm purging over night and I still get bubbles..

I bought someone's shatter to see if when I threw that in the chamber if it would bubble sure enough it bubbled,

So I'm guessing either this is air being sucked out , terps?!?!,

Or just still solvent in the wax.

Very confused,.

I'm almost ready to go back to just a hot plate and whipping, my vac chamber and pump just continue to make goo, heat or no heat.

Another question, if brought to the boiling point of THC, will the wax become sappy?

Sorry bro, i dont know about all that.

As far as the vacuum goes im guessing you dont have a tight seal or your mix is off, seems to me the petroleum base would boil off long before the water.
I hope someone knows cause i want to know too.

Are you looking at solvent bubbles or CO2 bubbles from decarboxylation?

At the boiling point of THC, the plant waxes are a runny oil.

I think hes looking at sssllllooowwwww even sized bubbles of c02.

keep it under 110F and you wont make goo.

overnight? ive had mine continue to make c02 bubbles for 6 days until it finally waxed up. (was a 9g puddle)

I'm thinking another way to make goo is to boil the THC under high vacuum .

He said the plant waxes are a runny oil at that point question is , is it goo for life?

Like has anybody made crumble wax from using absolute vacuum , -30"hg?

Or when you pass 29.5 the oil. Becomes more sticky?

I really don't know if I'm seeing co2 or solvent bubbles.

I always thought as a rule of thumb ; if the wax reacts to vacuum its not done...

I'm guessing this is simply not true.

I have a small extractor I'm gonna run like 10 micro batches, and add different variables for all, so I don't waste all my money in trim, and time.

its all a matter of time IMO... put goo in the chamber for 2 weeks straight and let me know how it turns out. I believe that with time, and vacuum. there is no goo.... itll dry ANYTHING out IF youre patient enough. it might taste like shit and lost potency... but you wanted wax!

If you cook the cannabis essential oil long enough, it will desiccate, as the volatiles leave.

The oil, nor the wax are improved by vacuuming below about 29.5" Hg and you can boil away the THC at room temperature under high vacuum. See attached chart:

If you purge under vacuum in thin films, you can purge all the solvent in less than an hour, leaving only C02 bubbles. The C02 bubbles will continue until it is fully decarboxylated.

EDIT For some reason the chart won't load but you can find the same information at http://skunkpharmresearch.com/vacuum-purging-and-processing-tips/
