Using Smart Pots in the Ground? Anyone Do It?

Has anybody ever done this? I’m just trying think of other ways to plant outdoors in the ground, and for my plants to take full advantage of this soil I spent a fortune on (Subcool’s Super Soil). I have 3 ways in mind.

1. Just dig holes and plant them. Maybe a 3’ x 3’ hole? (Trying to avoid this)
2. Using 7 gallon smart pots IN the ground. (I know some tree farms use this method for easy removal)
3. Using biodegradable pots, like fiber pots, in the ground. (7 gallon)

Any advice from outdoor growers? I’m located in the Midwest if that means anything. Plants are currently outdoors in 1 gallon plastic pots and loving life.

you would gain absolutley nothing by burying a smart pot. they work BECAUSE of air flowing thru the fabric and "air pruning" your roots.
if anything, put a layer of pearlite or coco at the bottom of your hole.
or grow in containers.... ABOVE GROUND :)

yea.. no need to bury your pots.. otherwise just dig a hole and dump your super soil in. i use Super soil and smart pots with good results.. above ground :P

Yea man Smart pots are the way to go above ground. The bigger the pot the bigger the plant, check out there website. I am curious to see how your grow comes a long i would make this your grow thread lol. Post pics

Well growing above ground is not an option, just trying to think of better ways. Maybe im making this too hard LOL

I don't like using buckets in the ground, I use smart pots to start indoor then go in the ground and like me growing with a pot out in the open is not an option either but would be nice.
And the roots will grow right out of it and into soil. The dimensions on smart pots sit lower but not sure what they are I use 1g up to 10g bags.

Kinda defeats the purpose don't ya think..lol

people crack me up sometimes.waste money on those pot's by burying them..lol

Not really when I can just pick them up from indoor and bury them for outdoor and re-use them. And when I used buckets rain was a issue even when bottom cut out it retained to much water so maybe you should read up and not miss inform. Not much more cost than a 5 gal bucket and There's a lot of people that use them and swear by them so take it up with the rest. I know they work better
