using river water to water plants

Hey I live a bit north of Toronto and I am gonna be guerrilla growing in an abandoned golf course. This year, it's gonna be especially hot, so I decided to grow. I have everything set, but
I was wondering if it would be ok to use river water, and adjust the ph level of that and use it to water my plants, or is it ok to use rain water and adjust the ph?

I use creek water and pond water to water my plants and don't pH adjust anything. I guess you should consider where the river is coming from and if there are any pollutants dumped into it or not. If not you should be fine.

RO or other filtered water is always going to be 'better' but I'm sure rain water is plenty sufficient to grow plants outside.
