Using fabric pots for Capillary Mats, no brainer or stupid idea? Auto watering for young plants

Has anyone checked out capillary mats? They look pretty awesome and use the same principles as a SIP (Sub Irrigated Planter), which I run because I can't water worth a sh!t.

Quick youtube video man'xplaining, http://waterpulse.com/

I was thinking about layering a few cut up big pieces of my fabric pots on top of a saucer riser with the edges dipping into the lower saucer where the saucer is filled with water acting as a reservoir. Small one gallon fabric pots placed on top of the felt draped into the reservoir can be fed water through the wicking action of the felt.

Anyone currently doing this or some derivitive of this?

I am not a fan of wicking systems because they promote salt buildups. If you are only adding water, no nutrients, then it's ok like with an organic soil grow. If the water contains salt based nutrients then they will build up in the medium causing issues such as nute burn and lockouts.
