Using exhaust to control temperature

Airflow won't reduce RH%, it prevents stale spots from having higher RH% than other spots but that is all.
It does if the RH of the air being brought into the tent is lower than the RH you want in the tent. That is my "problem".

So Jorge Cervantes (and many other people) is wrong, then?
I dunno, I don't grow from seed much lol. I just figure whats the point of a feminized seed if temperature would make for males. I wonder if you can make a femmed bean go male with adverse conditions.

You have to worry about thieves too, I never turn off my exhaust with the filter. You never know when someone is going to walk around your property without you knowing

I don't want to sound like I know shit about shit cuz I don't and this is only my second grow, but everything I've read says yes. Fluctuating conditions, poor environmental health and the like all lead to males. A stable environment, lowish temps, high ish humidity, light on the blue end of the spectrum and short days right away (14/10 or 16/8 )all lead to a high probability of females. As far as the point of feminized seeds, IMO it's so you don't have to go through all this trouble to get females and have essentially a guarantee ( ::edit:: also because the shorter days mean slower growth which means longer veg times so feminized seeds means less headaches all around). My environment is fine if I didn't have to try all this crap to get female plants.

That's one of the reasons I'm hesitant to exhaust outside. That, and the fact that i don't want to cut holes in my house until I'm confident in where I want my space to be.

I can tell you from experience that there is a LOT of snakes in your area and you need to have a good carbon filter or 2 running 24/7 you don’t want your hard work stolen

Better safe than sorry. If the carbon filter alone won't cut the mustard then you could add an inline ozone generator like a uvonair. It would only run when the fan runs. You do need 15 feet of duct for the ozone to mix and do it's job. You also need to use quality ducting and seal all of the potential leaks.

That’s good advice there, definitely won’t smell like weed after going through ozone!

Before I bought AC and CO2 generators for my rooms I had a 12 inch exhaust line that pulled on six air cooled 1kW HPS lights. I put a CD-1200 unovair on that line, all galvanized snap seam with duct mastic slathered on all the seams and junctions. Worked like a champ, I didn't even have to run the unit on the high setting.

Pretty sure that book is from the mid 90s. It definitely has a ton of useful information in it, but I am not sure how scientific that method was. Considering I can take snips off the first set of true leaves and get a DNA test to know sex a week after they germ... I am pretty sure @Renfro is correct.

I don't know how someone would go about proving that the sex of a seed can be influenced by conditions, but I could be wrong. I can see how conditions can cause stress hermies (bananas) but to get true balls I think it has to be genetic.

Really though, I am not a master of seedery lol so I could be wrong. I am under the impression that the whole germination temperature changing sex was a myth that was popular in the good old days.

For what it's worth, I think it's working for me, albeit extremely small sample size and totally not a scientific test. I started this grow on 6/8 with 3 seeds: 1 was the last of a 3 pack of feminized Amnesia seeds and the other two are freebies I got which said they are regular. I think they are showing sex and both the regular seeds look to be female. Of course, as stated earlier, I don't know shit about shit and it's probably to early to tell sex. Call it bro science, call it what you want, but unless I see someone equally as reputable as jorge come out and say "nope, that's bullshit and you're wasting your time", I am going to do this extra little bit of work to at least try and get more females. Especially because I can't grow a whole farm of plants just to be able to cull the males due to legality (IL medical limit is 5 plants over 5 inches.....) as well as space.

::edit:: Don't take this as me saying I have closed my mind and am not open to new information or even that I am arguing from authority. That is not my intent and I feel exactly the opposite. It's just that I value the knowledge of and respect people that have been doing this for a long time and it seems like such a small insignificant amount of work I have to put in to try and get the most out of my time. Admittedly, the short light hours is causing some stress because it is compounding the time this grow is going to take.

All good no offense taken. I think someone else pointed out tho too, keeping temps in check for me matters a lot more than RH. Once I was able to dial things in and keep my temp swing to within a 10 degree range bt lights on/off, that improved my grow significantly. My only concern is that by chasing this magic RH, at the expense of dialing in your temps, you are causing extra stress which itself can turn a female into a hermie.

Yep. That is a very real concern of mine too because I am causing fluctuations by making all these changes and fiddling around with crap while the plants are growing.
