Using cup of water germination method, but...

I've got three harvests under my belt with regular photoperiod plants but this is my first time with autoflower seed germination.

I'm using a simple cup of water which I've never done before and I have to say it's impressively effective. However my seeds have been in opaque cups, in the dark at about 75-78°F for three days. All of them are showing signs of tap roots beginning but the longest is only about an eighth of an inch long.

Should I wait till they're longer or put them in soil now?

I'm torn because the guides I see for this method seem to be saying the seeds should be ready to plant in just a couple days but every picture shows longer tap roots.

Anyone know more about this method to give advice?

Agreed. For me the only point in germinating first is to save space and dirt on seeds that may not crack. As soon as that shell starts to open i know it's good and it gets planted.
Thanks. Never thought of it that way but you're right about wasting soil. I have on quite a few duds.
I'm using the jiffy peat pellets surrounded by my soil in a very open mesh small container that goes in the larger pot. How deep do you recommend putting them in the peat?

Quarter inch or so is plenty.
