Upgradable Grow Question

Hi all! I'm a broke ass mofo living in a recently legal state and I'm looking to setup my first grow. My end goal is a grow tent using LED's. But my wallet currently can't afford what I want.

So I'm thinking I start off with a SpaceBucket or Brute grow and save up for a tent/more leds. What I'm thinking is getting a single COB(not sure yet what one) and use that in a bucket. When I have more money I can just buy more COB's.

Will one good COB be enough for a bucket/bin? Any suggestions on brands? Should I just forget the dream for now and go spacebucket + a blurple LED? I just want to get a grow going as soon as possible and to do it right.

Well, right now not much. I'd say under $200. But I'd like to future proof what I buy now as much as possible. The idea is to slowly buy more COB's as I get money and a grow tent. So the bucket build would only be temporary until I cab expand it more.

Cob $20
SST120 heatsink $15
Meanwell driver $30
w/reflector +$7
plus any shipping and/or tax.

Just need to hang it in whatever way you choose.

If this is really the start of a business venture, you should forget about COBs or LEDs for now. What the big (possibly only) downside to LED vs HPS? Initial capital requirements. Thats your main problem right now yeah?

You'll be waiting a long time to make money growing in a bucket adding one cob at a time.

How much space do you have? Buy a cheap 600w HPS and stick it on 4 plants in a 4 x4 . In 3 months you can buy 1000 watts of any cob you want and stick over a 6 x 4. Or you can add another 50 watt cob to your bucket grow.

I think one of these would fit your situation perfectly and it's plug and play:
https://www.autoflower.net/index.php/product/afn-55-watt-cob-light/
That does look like a super easy all in one drop in. Are the 1812's still good? I only ask because cobkit's seems to offer a better setup for cheaper https://cobkits.com/product/clu058-3618-active-light-engine/

This is kinda what I want to do. Start with one in a space bucket or something then when I save up I can buy a few more and throw them in a tent.

It's only for personal use and I'm trying to build something very efficient and use less electricity. I have considered doing something like this but I just don't have the space or money.

That price does not include a driver bro it's not complete.

And yes the 1812's are a great value and comparable to the Cree 3590's.

Yes of course, but since you didn't mention DIY I presumed you were looking for plug and play my bad

I'm no expert but if I can save money and assemble myself I can. I just don't know a lot about LED's and drivers(and growing!)

Not necessarily. I'm just looking around for my options.

I hear good things about the gen 7 Vero 29's but I can't seem to find exactly what I would need. I found the Vero site that lists the products and it shows 3 products for the 29 series:
  • Vero 29B- Gen 7
  • Vero 29C- Gen 7
  • Vero 29D- Gen 7
But I'm unsure which would be best for me. I see others saying 29C is where it's at but even then there is several different models of the 29C. I also feel kinda dumb saying this but I can't even find where to but them from. I cant seem to find the exact models their data sheet lists.

Would a single Vero 29 be enough for a single spacebucket? What would be the best CCT to use for both veg and flower?

@CobKits Excellent, thanks! For someone who knows nothing about leds/drivers/growing in general there is an overwhelming amount of options and opinions.

see this thread, exact same discussion going on

https://www.rollitup.org/t/new-cob-light-setup-citizen-or-vero-29s-looking-for-best-bang-for-your-buck-chip.927110/page-6#post-13156606

the 1825s can run 300+W theres no reason not to use them at 150-200+ watts each until you can expand your # of cobs. still gonna be better than HID watt for watt
Those cost $115 here in Canada. He could buy 3 Vero 29's for slightly less. Ordering from outside the country never saves money after duty, taxes and shipping.
