Updayday LED thread

I rock a mars with kingbrite diodes and a couple generic leds with undisclosed diodes. They work fine, more concerned with the wiring, connections and heat management.
So i can say off the bat the design is hot. Not melt things hot but hot enough i put a fan on it in fear of reducing the lights life. I think it would survive without the fan though.

It puts off a good bit of heat too, thanks to the ir diodes. But i did not even notice it was running hot until i stumbled on this thread and went to feel how hot it was.

I gave away my 4 x QB132, 9 x CLU048-1212 build for reasons I can't exactly justify a couple months ago. Frame, heatsinks, fans, mean wells, the whole thing. Hadn't used it (haven't grown) in a couple years and it sucked to store, but I should have just dismantled it and stored the pieces. I'm a fucking idiot. 90% of the clutter in my house is junk of no monetary value and I could have parted ways with that shit, but I decided to free up the space by getting rid of something expensive (it made no dent in the hoard).

Worst is that the couple I gave it to were new friends and after hanging out a few times I realized they were kind of lame. Perhaps the feeling is mutual, don't care to reach out to them and haven't heard anything from em in weeks. Doubt they'll ever set it up, so it'll just sit in their basement for eternity. Was like 700w at the wall and I ran it in a 4x4 with arduino DIY internet enabled dimming to balance temps / sunrise-sunset / run acclimation presets.

So then I find this thread tonight trying to catch up on what's new in LED land for my next grow room build (if I can find another fucking house to buy) and now I own two Updayday lights. Looks like the deal continues.

I like to run two bloom tents at a time but I also gave my two 4x4's away, so I'm thinking I'll try these lights out in a pair of 3x3x5 gorilla shortys. Point of this post: nothing, thanks for helping me spend money. On the plus side I probably won't feel inclined to junk these even if I take another hiatus from growing. A lot smaller than my old light and not on a janky frame either. I'll hang them over a work bench in my garage or something.

I guess my only complaint, and its reduced by this light not being a board light, is that its not spread out like bars. It does have bars, but i wish the fixture was alittle bigger. Just having issues covering corners in a 4x4. I think this may be the perfect light for a 3 x 3 though.

The light is made for no bigger than a 3x3 imo. It’s not even close to enough wattage to flower a 4x4, let alone a 3x3

Works good in a 2x4 as well.. The fact that the bars can be angled is good. I turned the outer ones inwards so no light is being wasted.

What y'all think about the 1000w(190w) updayday light with the movable panels? I was thinking of putting this up and using my 2 100w qb's to supplement in my 2x4. These photos are needing more light than those little autos.

So the bloom option is giving 6,000 less lux than in veg! Which should I be using during flower in that case? Screenshot_20220315-090708_Gallery.jpgScreenshot_20220315-090644_Gallery.jpg

Your lux meter isn't picking up the monochromatic red diodes...... As Long as all the LEDs are ON, that's your best bet for flower.
Ok thank you for that.. That makes sense. I was wondering if the red diodes were better for bloom over the LUX amount itself

Well, this grow is already going much better than my last fiasco. These things are a month into flower and the bagseed plant is way farther along. Before anybody accuses me of bragging or "showcasing" let me just say that I know my Kung Fu needs work. I'm only posting pics to document my progress. Alot of you on here have given me tips that helped me out. Hopefully y'all will continue to help bring an old outdoor/hps guy into a L.E.D. driven world.
