Undercurrent build to grow Monsters!!!

I finally decided on my water pump, air pump, and air diffusers design.

And I picked up a 50 ft roll of soaker hose for my diffusers. They will be rectangular with 2 air inputs and 2-3 cross tubs like a ladder. I did a quick test last night I they will work good. It put out small bubbles which is what I want.
 
I've been doing this exact kind of build for years- and I've ditched the air pump and stones/injectors thing completely.

I run a waterfall into the top of each tubsite, as if it's an epicenter. The pump sits in the control bucket which should be plumbed to be equidistant from the furthest corners of your RDWC; in other words, if you're running eight sites double barrel style for example, place the control bucket in the middle with four sites on each side. This gets water back to the control bucket more efficiently and helps the system resist clogs.

The pump feeds a manifold which delivers water to a 1/2" line and elbow fitting in the lid of each tubsite, creating a small but highly efficient waterfall in each one.

I run one waterpump and it circulates, aerates, agitates and creates splash in every one of my tubsites. UC is fucking backwards; the best place to put a plant in THEIR system is the only one they don't want you to- the epicenter! How assfucked is that?!
 
Thanks for checking in. I have been working on it this weekend. I got the water pump installed last weekend. It seems to be flowing more than enough water. The project has been on hold since my air pump I ordered go delayed during shipping. But I picked it up Friday so I am trying to get all my holes cut and everything transplanted today.

I am going to try aquaponics. Picked up 4 fish yesterday for now to see if they adapt.

A 10 ga and 12 ga wire is ran. So I need to get those hooked up to my main breaker and I am installing a 2 breaker breaker box in my grow area.

Tonight I need to make an order for lights. I am leaning towards Mars Hydro leds for now and hopefully before Christmas I will have my COB lighting complete.

What I currently have for led lighting now is not even close to enough.
But I have about 6 four foot florescent shop lights that are brand new so I will use those until the leds show up.

Right now I am limited until I get that breaker box up and running.
Everything is running off one 15 amp breaker!

I discovered earlier today that it is maxed out when my corded drill tripped the breaker.

So the work lights will have to be wired off the new power I ran or I can utilize the power from the ceiling lights since they are no longer necessary.

I did get my water filtration system complete. I installed a 3 stage RO for my res and a high flow carbon filter for cleaning stuff up.20141022_131654.jpg20141022_152222.jpg

Well since I am trying auquapoics. ( I have 6 fish now. )
I want the waterfall in the epicenter where my fish are.
In the future I might add a "y" and flow 1/2 my return into to a manifold with 14 outlets but I need to see how this setup works out first. Material cost is already maxxed out for now.

Ya, its a pretty crazy set up. I can see how material costs can get out of control with something like this. It always seems its 30-50% over budget regardless of what you plan on doing lol....and then something goes wrong and costs ya another pile. I stick with dirt because i dont like to have variables. No timer or pump to fail, just water and walk away. So do the fish have names yet?
 
Lids needed for transplant finished.
Cut sanded and washed clean and drying!

Not I hope the 8 that already started to auto flower will veg out again under longer lighting time and grow to be a little monstas....
 
Paint the lids, or better yet buy foil covered foam insulation board and cut pieces to cover your tubs; otherwise the roots aren't in the dark and they won't grow- and the water heats up too much.

My veg box I painted black first then silver.

I have a roll of diamond tent material, that will end up on the walls and left side to separate the veg area. Left over will go on top of the bucket. Heat will be minimal when I build the COB lights. And the goldfish like water at 65+
 
Goldfish huh? Those things can get pretty darn big if you keep them for long enough. Their cheap too, makes me want to get some and start up my six spot tote again. How do you keep the plants from dying from the organic slime? And you dont plan on feeding all those plants with those couple fish do you?

I am trying it out with 6 fishies for now. If they survive the transplanting of all 13 plants then then I will get 4-6 more. I also want to put a couple shrimp and snails in the system.
I hope they get big because I think I am going to need a lot more fish waste when these girls get tall and start to bud.
When they get too crowded I will put 1-2 in my 9 pot veg box epicenter.
And 3-4 in the epicenter for my larger 12 site veg area that l hope to start constructing in a few weeks
So far the water is still clean with no slime. The exposed plant roots should absorb the fish waste. Having my homemade air diffusers in each bucket should help keep the roots and sites clean. I will also have a diffuser in the epicenter where the fish are and one in my res. By my rough calculations the whole system is at a minimum flowing 90 gallons of water. So I need to figure out how many fish I need for 90 to say 125 gallons of water.

I am also going to put my air pump in an area that gets fresh filtered outside air that is 60 degrees or less so that cold air going through the air line should help my water temps. In the summer I will turn on the ac unit in that area to keep the air pump cool.

I think I will try putting some worms in the net pots next weekend.
