UK Drug Laws - Will We Ever See A Change??

Last election I voted Liberal Democrat, mainly because they promised to base drug laws on scientific fact rather than moralistic views and what the 'Daily Mail' says. When we eventually ended up with a 'Coalition Government' I actually thought we still might see change because, a number of years prior to becoming the leader of the Conservatives, David Cameron was campaigning for all drugs to be legalised and controlled. However, we've still seen NO CHANGE and our ridiculous Governments recent 'Drug Strategy' document pretty much said they're going to carry on as they are (what a waste of our money paying for that 'research' eh?).

So, do you think we will ever see a change while the current government is in power? It feels like the moment they get into office they simply leave things as they are.

Why can't Politicians be held to account for their pre-election promises? It seems like they can say anything they want before the election, then simply do nothing when they get in power!!! :wall:

There was a recent discussion in the House of Parliment about the UN and the worldwide drug problem. All the MP's were agreeing that we need to discuss this matter and they also seemed to agree that the current way of doing things (the 'Drug War') is not working and actually makes things a LOT worse. But why STILL do they carry on with things as they are??

Currently our Government is gifting BILLIONS to organised crime and terrorists, causing misery to millions and all the while they talk about the economic crisis............ there's a very simple cure to this problem Mr Cameron & Mr Clegg...... legalise cannabis first - you'll save millions on law enforcement, earn millions in taxes, UK tourism revenue would drastically increase and you'll be go down in the history books as the first Politicians to make a proper difference to the world.

Once the dust has settled on the legalisation of cannabis you can then start on the other things - Ecstasy... it's been proven to be far less dangerous than most legal drugs. There's a whole host of 'research' chemical freely available on the web, which are untested and I'm sure the users would much rather buy pure MDMA than bombing/sniffing something that no one knows the longterm effects of.

I'm not saying we should be selling crack or heroin in off-licences, but if people want it, they should be allowed to legally get hold of stuff. It could then be monitored and if someone is having a problem they could be helped.

Drugs have been used since we lived in caves. Humankind will never stop using drugs. The vast majority of people who use drugs do so on a recreational basis - they are not addicts! In years to come, I think we'll look back on the 'Drug War' as a very dark time in history... and the Politicians are the ones we'll blame for it too.

I could go on about this all day, but I'm very interested to hear other peoples views on it. In the near future I'm going to go and see my MP and see what he has to say about the matter (which should be quite interesting!).

And another thing! For gods sake, why can't we even do the Medicinal Marijuana thing like they do so many states in the US now??? :wall::wall::wall::wall:
