Tying 'Em Down

Hi all, I tried to tie one of my three babies down a little bit to allow more light to penetrate the canopy. I'm using CFLs so I figured this is important. The first plant I tried it on I fucking split the stalk vertically. Its pretty bad but I think she may recover. Anyways, I'm not attempting it on the other two until I get a little advice. So please, spread it on! +rep

Try super cropping first to see if it works it worked for me. Bend the branch or branches not the stalk. look it up it works great. As for the one you split take a towel and cut one inch wide and four inch long from a white cotton towel use it like a bandaid all the up the split and dont tie them tight and mist with just water daily (bandaids)when light cycle just starts and it will heal it self. Plant will shut down for a bit to recover.

you misunderstood me....i tried to tie down the branches. Imagine the two top branches being a females legs and the node where those branches meet being the vag. i pretty much fucked my plant with big foot's dick...This "Y" became this "V" in essence....haha any way to repair that? not quite as bad as my illustration but you should get the idea now. also, bout how far can these babies bend without hurting them? that's where i went wrong i'm guessin. i tied em down like bundy...no bueno

Don't worry about the stem split, easy to fix:

1. Splint with peices of dried branch/stem from another plant.
2. Wrap with masking tape.

or

1. Cut a piece of rubber tubing (1/2" is good) and wrap it around the break.
2. Masking tape to hold the tubing shut and support the plant.

Let the plant return to whatever shape it want's for 2 weeks. If you MUST bend then support the plant above the break (tomato cages are good for this) and bend above the break only.

I've creased, cracked, split, crushed, cut litterally dozens of stems over the years - every single stem healed and the harvests were fine. Does slow things until the plant is healed though.

If you have any questions or want to talk about your repair while it's going on I'd be glad to go over things with you.

White Ryno the trick to this is to cross the stems when you bend. Much easier and the stem follows it's natural bull legged posture when you bend. This way there is no pressure on the node to split and the branches bend easier than you think this way.

Node splits are simple - push it back together; wrap with something breathable that will not hold in water; tape/wire/tie shut. I keep several spools of garbage bag ties in my grow room, works great for this.

Don't forget to remove the bandage after 2 or 3 weeks - the plant will continue to grow and you'll get a bottleneck where the bandage is - makes the stem weaker for a few days when you take the bandage off but I haven't found any loss of yield due to reduced area for nutes to pass through.
