gonna spend about 8 billion or so for 2 nuke plants. i applaud that move. we need many more but thats a good start. remember what i have said from the beginning is the way out of this mess is energy, oil coal, solar,.everthing. and nukes have to lead the way. good job obama.

now on a sour note, i think he is going to go after toyota strickty because their none union. they made hints about it today.

prolly only for political reasons...
nissan isnt union here in tn so he would have to go after them too.
toyota manufacturing is good for the us economy, foreign competition isnt going to go away so they might as well be made here, right? but that just looks bad for the US auto industry, so any president with at least one ball in his sack would jump at the chance to get a japanese automaker in a tight spot just to make them look bad so that US auto production can be made to look better and in theory maybe get a better market share because of the neg publicity towards toyota....
its just how the game is played on that level.

How is Obama going to build nuke plants when he shut down development of the only facility to store the waste?

Where is Jeff and what did you do to him?;-)

I am a bit shocked Jeff, but nice of you to recognize something good Obama is doing.

I would be surprised if Obama went agressively after Toyota. They employ many American workers.

But from everything I have read, Toyota has done everything it can to cover up some very serious problems. Problems which have caused the deaths of dozens of consumers. And it appears that Toyota ignored its own internal and external experts saying that drastic improvments in quality control were esential.

Obama would be derilict of his duties if he did not point out the errors of their ways. The American public expects this. And union or not does not have anything to do with it. :weed:

Why look for partisanship where it isn't? Toyota is being investigated in Japan as well.

This should really open your eyes then. The president is reaching across the aisle for something that he thinks is good for the country. The true test (and this might well just be a test) will be to see if Republicans support or oppose the idea. As of late they refuse to support anything the president gets behind.

Toyota standardized a lot of small parts on their line to keep costs down. This means your tiny Toyota car might have the same gas pedal as a van or truck because manufacturers give bulk discounts. This becomes a liability however when the standardized part is defective. Instead of effecting 1 model it effects all models.

BTW He does have a "negro dialect", just the other day he said "maybe thats just how I roll". Pretty sure we have never had a sitting president use a line like that.

Well put Matthew. Obama has reached across the aisle time and time again, only to be rebuked by partisan republicans. And how about the latest? The Republicans voting against legislation that they mostly drafted soley because it looked like most democrats were going to support it!

I think there is a good chance the American people will smarten up. That is realize the problems lie with the obstructionist Rebublicans and vote out a shit load come this fall. Of course, we can only hope. :peace:

The biggest problem is he is all over the map! He supports coal, then he doesn't, then he does. Nobody even pays attention anymore, because tomarrow he will be against nuclear. Buisiness needs to have some idea where to stand.

I don't believe him at all.....

It looks like a GESTURE, nothing more.

I'll bet my bottom dollar these plants never get built by Obama.

Obama is now reminding me of the many (many) governors and cabinet officers I have known who, whenever confronted with a problem, appointed a commission or a task force to study the issue. Yucca Mountain has been in prep for 10 years and now Obama kills it. There is NO nuclear waste storage facility in the US and none even in the planning stages. But that doesn't stop Obama from posturing politically and proposing 2 new nuke plants.

And then there's the commission on debt and spending. Obama seems to think that if that commission he appoints tells him to raise middle class taxes then he can do so and have a shield from the political fallout. What leadership! What courage! I guess that's what Bush should have done, appoint a commission to tell him to invade Iraq. Obama is paralyzed with fear and confusion. He is effectively not the president and never has been. Problem is, no-one else is either.
