Tube Heater Doesn't seem effective.

Hi RIU.

Man I accidentally pressed back and just lost my post, dammmmmn!!

I was writing about my new tube heater, its a foot long and didnt come with a stand or somehting to rest on.

Problem is, it doesn't seem to be kicking out much heat, even with the thermo set on full. It feels like anything further than 2 inches away will not feel any heat.

My question is to people who do heat their rooms/tents with these, how do you go about it and where do you rest it?

My tent is a 1.2m squared one, and I have temps hitting 16 degrees lately on lights off. BAD!!

I'm considering returning this heater for a grow mat, which is quite expensive too

I use an 80w tubular heater in my room.

You're very correct they barely help increase temps. Its more for frost protection.

Mine is positioned close to my plants.

I also use a dehumidifier that helps to increase temps.


If you're looking for a better alternative get an oil filled electric radiator.

It's a shame, waste of £25 quid. Will return it I guess. How do you position yours? Is it lying on the ground next to the pots or do you have brackets/stand/insulated material?

I have been looking at oil filled rads but they are like 1000w, which is far too high.
I was thinking of a heating mat tbh.

A thousand watt heater can easily keep a 30'x30' area at 62 degrees when the average outside temperature is about 30 degrees F. Even if my room drops to about 55 during the dark cycle I'm not too concerned even if my containers are on a cement floor. It doesn't hurt the yield or quality and the cooler temps during the winter usually bring out purple tones even in green strains. Just make sure your room doesn't heat up too fast if it goes from 55 to 85 in 30 minutes that can be a problem...

That's the trouble with heating a room.

Is your tent in a room within the house?

Wouldn't it be better to allow the house radiator to be on in the room so that it keeps your room the same temp as the house?

As mentioned a dehumidifier adds heat to a room but also reduces RH. They run around 221w.

My tubular heater is positioned here.



See it on the right.

My Osc fan is directly above it.

Then my dehumidifier is opposite.

I also use a speed controller on my exhaust fan that temperature controlled.

I got ya my man but I am already using quite a lot of leccy and don't want to be using a 1kw heater. I don't know, if it must be done I guess I will but like atm with 6 hours off it might be okay but when it comes to 12 off....dreading it!

Yes the tent is in a spare bedroom, thing is we never use the gas CH, just don't, down to cost so each bedroom has one of those standalone propane gas bottles with a heater. I've taken mine out cos it's bulky and probably a hazard with everything going on in there.

I see how you have it set up, were you supplied with those brackets with the heater?
I am looking to get a thermostat working with my exhaust but that's besides the point.

A dehumidifier sounds like the way to go, do you have it on only during lights off?

I was thinking of a dehumidifier to combat the high humidity during lights off, didn't know they kick out heat.

If this is the case, I may scrap the idea of getting heating mats.

Scrap the idea of a heating mat.

My dehumidifier runs when the RH exceeds 48%. Then it drops it to 36% and switches off.

This is conjunction with my speed controller means that my temps stay above 18C.

Just thought I'd mention that I intake cold external air into my room too.


I would estimate that my dehumidifier is running for about 12hours in total in a 24hour cycle.

Okay I'm looking into low wattage dehumidifiers, I've come across a next problem though regarding placing it in my tent. I don't have any floor space.

That's one draw back.

You need floor space.

I use a continuous drain feature on mine which bi passes the internal water tank (2L) and goes via 14mm hose to a 10L water container.



My PROLINE DH10 can remove 10L of moisture per day according to the instructions. At max it runs 221w.

It keeps my 3.2x7x8ft closet in check.

Luckily I only utilise a 3.2sq area for growing and my plants are elevated off the floor giving me room.

Due to my plants being elevated I don't have to remove them to water.


You may be able to put the dehumidifier at the vent port of your tent and allow it to blow through the open holes.

Thanks for the info, the continuous drain feature is good, and also the thought of putting it outside the tent blowing through vent holes isn't bad. But if it is outside the tent, doesn't that defeat the purpose?

Yeah kind of.

But it should still blow the warm dry air into the tent via the holes.


Obviously not as good as if it were inside.

Got the tube heater in there and temps are still as low as 18/19 lights off. The tube heater might actually be working lol, it is only at half strength so going to try it a bit higher. Need some fittings for it though.
