Trump making new friends

Just met the new Prime Minister of Italy, @GiuseppeConteIT, a really great guy. He will be honored in Washington, at the @WhiteHouse, shortly. He will do a great job - the people of Italy got it right!” -Trump

Giuseppe, a populist who lied about having studied at US and UK universities, has no major political experience. Italy’s debt is 135% of their GDP, highest in the EU after Greece, and it’s expected to get worse, partly because he ran on increasing welfare and tax cuts (and no realistic plans to finance it).

Highlights of Giuseppe Conte's speech:

Migration:
  • Conte called for the Dublin Regulation — which requires people seeking asylum to register in the first EU state they enter — to be overhauled.
  • "We will seek ... to set up an automatic, obligatory system to redistribute asylum-seekers."
  • "We are not and will never be racists. We want procedures that determine refugee status to be certain and speedy, to effectively guarantee their (refugee) rights."
Foreign policy:
  • "We intend to reaffirm our membership of NATO, with the United States of America as a privileged ally."
  • "We will support opening up to Russia. ... We will push for a review of the sanctions system, starting with those that risk humiliating Russian civil society."
Fair enough on migration (many refugees in the past couple of years come to EU through Italy) but opening up to Russia, mentioning it in his speech... some new world order fascist reach-around shit going on with Putin, Trump and Giuseppe.

Trump will “honor him in the WH”. For what? Seems like the only thing they have in common is love for Russia and hate for Merkel (she’s blocking bailouts for the large debts).

What "privileges" can Italy offer the US?
I think he means that Italy will talk, and where possible align their agenda, with the US before throwing it in the NATO group. Giuseppe is rather anti-EU and like Trump looking for new friends.

Trumps seems to like trying to legitimise dictators (North Korea) and Con artists.
Yea, concerned about what’s “good for Russia”, and now on a mission to make North Korea “prosperous”, sucking up to Giuseppe, and then continue to insult his closest ally and direct neighbor and second largest trading partner.

I have a nice wine grape press and a crusher-stemmer that I like. Both came from Italy.

A hand crank pasta machine too.

Hopefully the new prime minister won't make Borscht the national soup.

One of my aquarium heaters is made in Italy and is about the best currently available on the US market- it has a lifetime warranty and I've had to replace two in the last 5 years

My German-made Ebo-Jager is ~30 years old and works perfectly. They sell on eBay for more than they cost new

When it comes to mechanical shit, the Italians are really good at leatherwork
Google BCS tillers. All gear drive. Lamborghini deisel. Amazing machine. I've owned one for ~35 years and still no issues. I raise an acre of garden. Built like a tank. Ring and pinion on the tine box not a worm gear. I'm not into leather.

And saving Chinese jobs of a sanctioned company.
