prolly cause it is spelled node?

the first little oval leaves called cotyledons they are there to get the little seedling going and once it does they fall off

the next set of leaves come out serated and small and are the first true leaves, in most cases these also fall off when the plant has matured some call this the first node but IMO a node needs to have branches so I don't count this one

The next set of leaves that grow out would be the first true node

and each set that grows out after that is a node

before the plant is mature the nodes will grow out evenly (leaves on each side growing out at the same point of orgin) and once they mature they will come out unevenly (a sign plant is ready to flower)

hope that helps
