Trouble deciding when to harvest...

Hey RIU, I'm having trouble determining when to harvest. Here is my last post from my thread today....any insight or advice would be greatly appreciated. First Harvest for this Newbie:-?

I'm having trouble deciding when to harvest as the tirchs are about 50% cloudy, 45% clear, 5% amber (and that's looking on actual bud sites not the leaves), and the hairs are probably 70% orange/amber color with 30% still being white.

She's not smelling much, and it doesn't seem like she's producing much more. Over the past 2 weeks, there has been significant trichome development, but the past few days it does not seem like much has happened.

I know the pics aren't that good, but it's the best I can do. Anyone have any thoughts?

what strain is it? How long has it been in (12/12)? Depending on the strain (whether its indica dominant or sativa dominant) will depend on when you should chop it...The amount of pistils changed really has no bearing on whether it is finished or not as some strains will be ripe with 20% hair changes and some with 80% hair changes...Also, different growers do it differently..I know growers who like 50% amber trichs before chopping..ME personally, I like to get AS CLOSE TO 100% CLOUDY as possible...which never happens as THC and trichs are being produced and going through different states at different times..I usually wait until the majority are cloudy with as little amber as possible as amber means that the THC is starting to degrade. It also depends on the high that you like as well..If I were you and since it is your first harvest, I would maybe cut a lower branch now, with not a lot on it, and start to trim and manicure..A few days later, check the trichs again until it looks a little more ripe and repeat and start drying..then with a majority amber trichs and cut and dry...That way you get a sample of the different stages of trich development for THAT specific strain. :D

Sorry, I didn't copy the whole post.

it's bagseed....pretty sure it's indica dominant, been 79 days since the flip to 12/12 and about 72 days since pistils first appeared. I am going for more of a "couchlock" end result, which I figure will take longer to achieve, I'm just wondering why I'm still getting new growth with clear trichs. I did cut a small branch a week ago, let it dry and smoked it, it was more of a heady high, but not very potent (didn't last very long) probably since I didn't cure it.

That looks sativa dominant to me. The leaves look sativa and 72 days is long for an indica. You're probably not going to get the effect you're after with this strain. Don't let the trichomes go amber, this is past peak production. If you want a different high, choose a different strain.

Don't use bagseed next time, and if you do make sure it came out of some great buds.
There are plenty of beanbanks to get genetics from.
Bagbeans require much selection to find good ones.
