Hey Folks, trimming is not fun after the first 15 mins! ;) How close a 'haircut do you give your bud? It takes me about 3-4 passes to clean up a bud, 1st big fan leaves, 2nd dig out fan leaves from the bud 3rd trim leaves buried in bud 4th small sugar leaves folded over bud. Arrggh Am I over doing it?

Yup! If your trimming wet, remove the fan leaves and quickly trim away any small leaf that is low on thrichs. Once on the rack as it dries the smaller crispies will break off and be left on the rack. Flipping the whole rack at least once half way through the dry will also help in removal of the un-wanted leaf. Its not fool proof but after a few times you will know how much to take off and what to leave. JAS

Trimming sucks, I use good lighting and go by where the most trichs are concentrated.

No need to ever go digging into your bud, trying to do a first class job, bro. Remember, it's about preserving the trichomes. When you destroy them, it's a class A felony !! LOL If you haven't already, you will get it down pat, using your own system. Enjoy !!

After all the work and that aggravating thing called 'Patience' of which I have a lack of, I just after some tasty good looking bud. Not a bad thing but I ended up with a little more than I thought I would.......

I don't hang anymore for this reason. ease of trimming. Were averaging 2 1/2 hrs. per pound. Sound good...the reason is my trimmers trim for 7 different growers and put out prolly 4lbs. each a week...so they have gotten pretty good. You'll get it bud. JAS

I should hope to get that good, better scissors will help, JAS are you laying them on a rack or sandwiching between racks?

I purchased a couple of these http://compare.ebay.ca/like/251327741413?var=lv&ltyp=AllFixedPriceItemTypes&var=sbar&_lwgsi=y&cbt=y&lpid=33&item_id=251327741413 not exactly but similar when I started racking instead of hanging and my efforts went down. I have built a poly tent that holds 2 racks. Both get flipped half way through drying, a 6 inch inline draws air up through the bottom of the tent(passive) and out the chimney. Each of my racks will hold 1 1/2lbs. dry. They come in many sizes to suit anyone's needs. I stumbled across an older gent that showed me this and it has definitely reduced my work load and many others. JAS

just trim the leaves off the bud, that's it do it fast as possible. trick it. put them onto a big pan and pree trim them cutting fan leaves off . then get a bag. sit down watch tv and take your time trimming. trim and throw bud into bag, and repeat. the tv will help. expect to spend a min an hour a plant, up to 5 hours, depending on size. have fun ! my record. spent. 53 hours straight no sleep just coffee and small snacks. trimming.

Well the snipping continues, letting the popcorn get some light and mature. The mason jar stash is curing nicely and almost dry enough to roll a doobie with. Good taste and buzz. Looks pretty good dried so my haircut isn't that bad ;)

I just trimmed 7 plants last night and I have this to say, it SUCKED!!! 10.5 hrs of non stop trimming. I have 13 1/2 gallon mason jars filled about 3/4 way full with my hygrometer inside. im thinking I may invest in a mechanical trimmer machine. anything to save me time on my next harvest.

Gotta get a new scissors! From what I've read, I wouldn't abuse my bud with a mechanical trimmer.

You must be getting one hell of a commission! I see you post about an autotrimmer everytime I read a thread about someone complaining about trimming lol :bigjoint:

My neighbor drives me crazy. He cuts the lower branches and sits trimming the fan leaves off, then everything else, then the buds are left. I cut the buds off first, then the small bud leaves and I am done and have my bud and stuff for oil. Why bother cutting off the big fan leaves? They end up on the floor anyway as trash. If someone wants them for butter they are welcome to it, no great loss to me. He just tells me he has been doing this for a "long time", four years? Happy harvest folks and trim smart. J

Why are you complaining?. Growing is for the most part a passive activity except watering and feeding so why bitch about a littlel boring work like trimming. When all is said and done if you don't want to spend the time it takes to trim then quit growing and go back to buying your bud.
