Trimming during grow

So I'm 16 days into flowering. Wondering what to do about trimming during the grow. It's nirvana's papaya and it's super short and really dense. There's two main colas and 3 or 4 other little colas that's I'd like to supply some more light to. How should I go about trimming for those?

If you do trim... just hit fan leaves that are really blocking light and cut them leaving about 1/2 inch of stem left. This helps it heal up quick (the small stem segment heals/dries much faster than if you cut it very close to the main stem and leave a big open wound on the plant)

so cut the entire fan off but leave about 1/2" of stem coming off the main branch? am i understanding correctly?

leave it the fuck alone. every leaf is there for a reason. when that leaf dies(u'll know) gently pull it off. if it doesnt pull right off. LEAVE IT THE FUCK ALONE

haha i like the simplicity of it, but problem is, i left about 3 or 4 inches from the top of the soil to the lip of the pot, so there's nowhere for all that bottom growth to spread and it's just dying. i'm trying to pull the main 3 or 4 shoots away from the middle to get more light to the bottom, but it's not working out too well.

LOL..... That's utter nonsense. Why would I allow a grow tip to be shaded when I can clip one fan leaf and allow the tip to see light and grow up to the top of the plant witht he other colas?

That mentality of don't cut a single leaf is utterly ridiculous. I also prune inner leaves so my plants respirate better.

I use UB's topping technique. If I don't trim leaves and allow the two alternate growth tips to get light, the plant only produces two tall colas. If I selectively trim and allow light into the plant, I get 4 colas.... It's a no brainer.

:weed:everyones got there own methods. i wouldnt cut shit off an apple tree so the apple can be like the other ones. because u dont need to . wwhen u do a guerilla grow and dont have the time to sweat the small stuff. it's a plant. it mus be there for some reason. usually there shouldn't be many reasons to cut parts off.

retransplant, and fill it to the top if youre worried about trimming

Plants benefit from pruning, it is common horticultural knowledge. Pruning promotes new growth. Pruning helps to prevent diseases and insects, and it allows the plant to respirate better. It also allows the whole plant to receive light, if it is done correctly. We aren't discussing guerilla grows and it only takes a second to clip a leaf. My personal belief is, if it is blocking a growth tip from stretching up due to shading, cut it off. If needed, the plant will replace it. In fact, I sometimes have to clip fan leaves more than once for the same growth tip. With enough light, they'll grow up to the same or near height as the other colas.

Yes everyone does stuff differently. But to have the mentality that you can't remove a single leaf to benefit an entire branch is just not thinking. I do not prune after week 3 of flower. I never cut bud leaf, only fan leaves.

excellent insight, both of you. i will be cutting off a few fan leaf tips to make for some better undergrowth respiration and light penetration. thanks!

i am on my first grow and was a bit unsure to cut the leaves or not... im in a similar sitch to you.

anyway i ended up cutting em and that day and since they have grown much better.... i only took off large leaves that were looking yellowy

Yeah, I trimmed a bunch of the top fan leaves in half and there are now 6 or 7 tops instead of the 3 there were before that.
