Trichs maturing bottom-up? (Free bud porn incl.)

Hey, Folks.. My first grow is coming to a head, both literally and figuratively. From everything I've read, I've gotten the impression that the tops of the plants reach harvest maturity first (wrong?).

But, in one of yesterdays' 3x daily trichome surveys (can't help it), I found some lower branches showing amber trichs, like 10% coverage or so, while the "upper tier" is about 60/40 cloudy to clear, with just a scattered amber here or there. That's where I want them -- about 10% amber, so down they came (just those branches -- about 80-90% of the crop is still standing).

Is this weird, or did I just get a wrong impression on how MJ matures? Or perhaps it varies by strain?

Nice work man! This is great, because I am noticing the same thing on my plants. It's also my first grow. I have a 60/30 cloudy to clear with some amber scattered in there. I think I am going to chop my lower branches and leave my top 4 main colas for a couple days longer. I'll add some pics to your thread if you don't mind!

Awesome... we may not get answers, but as long as the porn keeps coming, who cares? 'Course, the fact that you're seeing the same says something...

I have noticed trichs matureing from top to bottom. I normaly cut of the tops and wait for the bottoms to ripen.

Hey.. for anyone still interested, check out Subcool's "Amber Alert" in the Organics / Subcool sub-thread. He says that you do see both.. it's strain dependent -- some mature bottom up, others top down. And.. very interesting.. that tall plants in soil grows sometimes mature bottom-up while the top cola "never seems to finish..", which I take to mean as producing amber trichs.

So I guess that settles that.. but weigh and post your porn anyway if you have a mind to..

What the hell. Here is what my lower branches look like. I only have one plant, but I have 4 main colas left that are decent size. I'm tickled to death for a first timer......
Nice, bro... looks really sweet!

I'm totally with you.. this is my first harvest, too. I took down my more mature branches a few days ago; how rewarding. I pinched a little for an early smoke.. really, really nice. Big citrus punch up front, nice superskunk-type dank on the exhale.. fuuuuckkkk!!! They've been on plain water for almost 3 weeks and flushed twice, and it shows in the smoke.

Have fun with those 4 colas.. the trimming makes a nice little zen session, I think. I'm taking down my most advanced cola tonight -- she's about 5% amber / 70 cloudy.. the rest clear. I've got 4 colas too, but on 4 plants..

This shit rocks...

I'm right there with ya Kriegs. I can't decide whether to chop the rest down today, or giver her 24 hours of dark and chop tomorrow afternoon. Mine smokes like that also.....I get the citrus taste up front and the skunkness on the exhale. After I got down manicuring those little ass branches yesterday my fingers were so damn sticky and reeked of LEMON!!!

Damn straight.. mine are from bagseed that was just bonus in some street weed. Can't believe I ended up with such a strong character that ppl pay specifically to get..

Saw the stuff about 24hrs dark... hmmm. I'm sure it can't hurt anything..

When you go for the "big chop", I saw a cool suggestion -- wear powder-free latex gloves while handling. Don't touch anything but your plants when wearing the gloves. When you're done, put the gloves in a baggie and put them in the freezer for a half-hour or so. Pull them out, and you can peel off the sticky resin as charas, or finger hash. I'm def. going to try this out.

mine did the same thing. what i think the reason is is that the smaller buds mature quicker. is this true or am i mistaken?

Check one of my posts in the middle of the first page... I found some good info on this. Some strains go bottom-up, others top-down and with some, bottom up but the very top never matures...

So I guess we all just have to learn our strains by watching...
