Not seen it before ... not saying its not possible ...but for sure i would like to see it :)

It will have to be in a few days, but i don't believe its sweating. its under a 400w MH digital ballast on 50% so 200 w about 12 to 18 in above it. Its not like coated or anything but you can see it sparkle lol and it only have 4 little tiny leafs.

Sounds good! I'm growing SLH and was a little worried when I saw this in veg. I pulled out the microscope and was amazed that it was trichomes. I just started flowering, but hopefully this will be some crystally yield

There are indeed trichomes on early leaves, as well as later bud leaves. They're just different kinds of trichomes. On the early leaves, they're the leetle tiny hair like structures on the leaf surface. Many plants have them, not just cannabis.

That sounds pretty unusual, but I'd love to see some pics! I've got a Stevia plant (natural sweetener), and it got real trichy early on. Happy growing people.

So do you extract the trics from the stevia? I have raise some and dried it. It sweetens well but does not dissolve so it leaves little flakes in your drink. I plan try various extraction this year. I have read of alcohol extraction but nothing else.
The cross application of extraction systems could be used in various applications.

That's awesome! so is it a good thing to see trichomes early on than not at all until later in the process? like has anyone ever seen one with and one without and then see the difference in the end??

they always have "trichomes" it's just that most people don't recognize them as such, because they don't look the same as the glandular type that we usually obsess over.

Yeah last season was my first experience with the Stevia plant and it's trichs Snew. I sun dried the leaves for about 12 hours and then used a coffee grinder until it was almost a powder. It can definitely leave some flakes, but at least you only need a little to sweeten drinks-- that stuff is crazy sweet. I remember picking a leaf and throwing it into my mouth only to have my taste buds freak out! If I remember correctly it's like 200 times sweeter than traditional sugar. I also plant to experiment this season. Let me know if you find a better way Snew. Good luck and happy growing.

I hope to do an alcohol extraction with part of this summers stevia. We'll see how that does.

I think it was Subcool that said his male selection process start with plants that show glandular trichomes on the actual cotyledon leaves themselves. I could be wrong.

Agreed man. I have seen a strain cross breed with whatever random male was out there, producing offspring that showed "trichs" on their second set of true leaves. And I am willing to bet that with a microscope, you can find them far earlier than you might think. I am sure if Subcool does use this method, he doesn't see a human size trich on the cotyledon. I would think he possibly uses some magnification to see them? BUT I AM NOT SPEAKING FOR SUBCOOL HIMSELF! I am simply giving MY opinion as to what I THINK he MIGHT do. :)

Was in the 2008 Hightimes Ten Best issue, talking mostly about back crossing iirc with a little blurb on breeding male selection, how they created Jillybean and other good stuff. There was a pic of a zoomed in sprout, with just two cotyledon leaves, one with a normal sized, full developed capped trichome like you would normally see on a plant around week 5. Sub said that was a great way to identify a quality resin producing male, so I can't see how it would be different than a female.
