Trellis advice <3

Ok so i bought the type of trellis that attaches to the corners of your tent.
I am running a 5 gallon bucket DWC and i need to be able to take the lid off to switch
buckets ( i have extra so i put the new water/nutes in a different bucket balance PH then just switch)
But I dont understand how will i be able to lift the lid off once the plant is big and
growing through the trellis?

Feels like a dumb question but im stumped.

It not a dumb question, it’s a legit issue with that style of system and using plant supports. Personally if I was gonna use individual dwc buckets I would build a frame to attach the trellis to, and mount the frame right to the lid of the bucket. Then the plant and the trellis could all be moved together.

Fuck, so i bought the wrong style trellis for sure... I dont trust myself to build much of anything. Zip ties are about as DIY as i get lol.

Soooooooo do you think this would work;

Drain the bucket the plant is in. switch out for a clean bucket (also empty) trying to keep the lid/plant as still as possible
during the process. With the bucket emptied theres no worry of spillage so i can swing it down and shouldnt need to move lid too much.
Then use a funnel to backfeed fresh nuted/ph'd water from the drain tube on the clean empty bucket?

Yeah that should work fine, will just be a hassle.
Will def be a hassle im not looking forward to. but id be afraid of something growing in one
of those systems where u can change out the water and leave the same bucket whole grow.
Granted im hella noob, and have only changed out 1 bucket thus far in my "career" but
it was only 7 days old and had a little bit of sediment at the bottom. wouldnt wanna see the
bottom of it w 4 months between cleanings.

Today will be my second time switching out buckets, After seeing the first one I doubled up
on airstones so im hoping this one doesnt have a spec of buildup.

Just stop all the fucking about and pump out the water when you need a fresh res and replenish with new. Use a steriliser if your worried about bacteria.

No I use a small amount of pool shock to create a sterile environment. I mix a 1/2 tsp I’d shock into a gallon of water and then add 1ounce per gallon of that solution to my reservoir every 3-4 days. It works great and prevents nasties from ever growing. Some people use hydrogen peroxide. I’ve done that but it was more expensive and less effective then the pool shock.

hold the phone pool shock doesnt hurt the babies>?? very interesting. Could i be adding that to my bucket to make it last longer between changing water? About how long would the water go w out changing?

Doesn’t hurt a thing, chlorine is actually an essential growth nutrient for plants. You only need to use it in small amounts and the plants love it, nice clean roots. I’ve regularly used to go 2-3 weeks without changing my reservoir, just topping it off with whatever it needed. I wasn’t growing dwc fyi, I was growing with ebb and flow. I feel pretty confident what I’m saying still totally applies though.

I think i will be adding that on top of the hydroguard in a very small dose.

Any suggestions for how to treat these roots? They dont appear to be getting worse, but nothing more is spraying off and its
discomforting to say the least seeing brown shit on me roots lol

You don't need shock and hydrogaurd together. The hydrogaurd is a bacterial product, and the shock should kill it which would just waste money.

For the roots, after you spray the bad stuff off, just get them into a clean proper system again, and keep an eye on them. Before I started running a sterile res I fought slime issues 2-3 times. It usually took more then one full clean up of the roots and res. Make sure you clean the air stones too, maybe soak them in some peroxide to kill and baddies inside the stone.

After switching to using shock I never had issues again.

If you are still looking for a portable scrog trellis that makes changing out your bucket easier, maybe something like this could help....

Nice work on the link. I had seen that before, and it was exactly what I was picturing when I mentioned the idea :).

still seems like it would make the res change hard since ur lifting the entire plant late stage itll be heavy
